Ryan O’Hearn posts four hits, three RBI in win

Bazzana has started only three of the Guardians’ last six games, but he’s come up big in all of those and in his one appearance off the bench during the span. Over the four games, he’s collected two homers, two doubles, three singles and eight RBI, all in Cleveland victories. He’s back up to .244/.345/.387 for the season. It’s unclear if that will win him back any time against lefties, but it doesn’t matter for the near future; the Guardians aren’t slated to face any southpaws over the next week.

Bibee got rare run support tonight, with the Guardians taking a 6-0 lead in the third, but he had to be pulled in the fifth after two doubles, a single that first baseman Nathaniel Lowe really should have made a play on and then a Pete Alonso homer. It’s the second straight start in which Bibee, whose velocity is down a bit, has allowed five runs, taking his ERA from 3.88 to 4.22. The Guardians did go on to win 9-5, though. It’s just the second time all year that they’ve scored more than six runs in a game started by Bibee. He’ll likely make his next start Monday against the White Sox.

Young hadn’t allowed more than four earned runs in a start this year before the off night. He actually surrendered only four hard-hit balls to the Guardians, but one of those was a three-run homer from Travis Bazzana in a tough second inning that started with a groundball triple that eluded Pete Alonso and then saw Patrick Bailey hit an 87-mph liner that probably would have been caught in a typical defensive alignment go for an RBI single over the drawn-in infield. Young dropped to 9-4 with a 3.71 ERA. He’ll likely face the Mets on Monday.

Alonso has 34 homers and is now just three RBI away from reaching 100 for the fifth time in his career. He’s also two homers away from No. 300 for his career.

Beavers, Colton Cowser and Leody Taveras are all slumping of late, leaving the Orioles in a really tough situation with their outfield. Assuming that his back is okay, Blaze Alexander might start seeing more time in the corners. Heston Kjerstad is also an option, but his Triple-A numbers prior to his callup last week don’t inspire a lot of confidence.

Gómez struck out Tigers outfielder Riley Greene to begin the ninth inning before retiring the next two batters and locking down his 22nd save. He’s come out of nowhere this season to be a crucial pickup for fantasy managers. Gómez began the year with Tampa Bay, had an 6.23 ERA with the Rays and didn’t get his first save with the Twins until May 10. He just picked up his eighth save since the start of August and has a 2.44 ERA in 44 1/3 innings with the Twins.

Henderson was lifted for a pinch-runner after fouling a ball off his foot in the eighth inning. He finished 0-for-3 with a walk. He’ll presumably undergo X-rays to determine whether he suffered any fractures. There should be an update on his status before Wednesday’s series finale.

Anderson gave up four hits, walked three and struck out four. He fell to 4-6 with the loss. Anderson pitched well while allowing one run in the first five innings before the game turned when he allowed a two-run home run to Kody Clemens in the sixth inning. He now has a 2.97 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings over his last seven starts since the Tigers moved him into the rotation in early August. Anderson is lined up to face the Blue Jays on the road next Monday and could be in for a two-start week.

Kremer gave up five hits, walked one and struck out three. He’s 3-5 with the win. Kremer improved on the five earned runs he allowed in his last start, which was also against the Tigers. He still has a 6.46 ERA in 23 2/3 innings over his last five starts and a 5.65 ERA on the year. Kremer is lined up to face the Yankees at home next week, but he doesn’t need to be rostered in most fantasy leagues at this point.

O’Hearn played seven innings at first base during his rehab debut. The 33-year-old figures to make it back to Pittsburgh by the conclusion of the week. He’s been out with a quad strain since early August.
