Connor Prielipp whiffs 10 in no-decision

It sounds like Ryan is feeling well enough to take the ball against Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday at Target Field after being scratched from Tuesday’s start due to illness. The 30-year-old’s return will push Connor Prielipp back to Friday’s series opener against the Rockies. There could be some changes depending on whether Tuesday night’s contest is played with showers in the forecast.

Prielipp falls to 2-5 on the season with the loss. The 25-year-old allowed nine hits and three walks, and the four strikeouts obviously didn’t make up for all of that traffic. Prielipp was certainly hurt by his defense as well — in this case an error by Brooks Lee — but the overwhelming majority of the blame goes to the former University of Alabama ace. Prielipp shouldn’t be near fantasy lineups next week in a scheduled start versus the Dodgers.

Prielipp didn’t seem long for this one after giving up a two-run homer to the second batter he faced in the first and two more runs in the second, but he hung around and kept the Twins in the game despite managing just two strikeouts and giving up 12 hard-hit balls. He wound up leaving with the score tied after six, only to immediately watch the Cardinals hit three homers in a five-run seventh. Prielipp remains 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA. He should stay in the rotation for now and face the D-backs next week, but a move to the pen could be a possibility at some point if the Twins get some injured starters back.

Prielipp gave up four hits, walked one and struck out seven. He fell to 2-4 with the loss. Prielipp had a quick hook after only 77 pitches as he was pulled with one out in the fifth inning. The move backfired on Twins manager Derek Shelton as his chosen reliever Andrew Morris allowed three runs. Prielipp has a 5.15 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Cardinals at home next weekend.

Prielipp and the Twins fell behind early in the game as a throwing error by Minnesota and a two-run single by Miguel Vargas gave the White Sox the first three runs of the game. The Twins would come back to win 6-4 with Prielipp striking out seven in six innings. He’s lined up to face the Royals at home on Sunday.

After notching three strikeouts in the first inning, Prielipp got hit around a bit in the second inning, giving up four singles, with the most costly coming on a two-RBI knock by Sam Antonacci. Prielipp would run into more trouble in the third inning after allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base, only for Colson Montgomery to drive home Miguel Vargas to put the White Sox up 3-1. Prielipp would be pulled with two runners on and one out in the fifth innings, but wound up being charged for two more runs after exiting. After a strong start to his season, Prielipp has now allowed 11 earned runs in his last two starts. He’ll get a chance to make up for this disastrous outing in his next start, which is scheduled for Monday at home against the White Sox.

After walking Jarren Duran to start the game, Prielipp surrendered an RBI double to Wilyer Abreu two batters later to put the Red Sox up 1-0. That was just the beginning of a tough first inning for Prielipp, who allowed the next three runners he faced to reach base and had his team down 4-0 after the first inning. The Red Sox would touch up Prielipp for two more runs in the fourth inning, as the lefty struggled to keep runners off the base paths all night while notching a single strikeout. This was easily the worst outing of the season for Prielipp, who had allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his previous five starts. He was fortunate to escape this game with a no-decision and will hope for a bounce back in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday at the White Sox.

Prielipp has allowed one or two earned runs in all five of his starts to date, but he has only a 1-2 record to show for it. His eight strikeouts tonight were a new high. He’s definitely a mixed-league option at this point, but he’s not a great play in a one-start week against the Red Sox in Fenway next weekend.

The Twins are going to push rookie Connor Prielipp’s next start back a couple days in an effort to manage his workload. Matthews will get the call to fill the spot in Minnesota’s rotation vacated by Taj Bradley (pectoral) after he hit the injured list last weekend. The 25-year-old has compiled an inflated 4.72 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 33/11 K/BB ratio across 34 1/3 innings over seven starts for Triple-A St. Paul this season. He struggled to a bloated 5.56 ERA over 79 1/3 innings across 16 starts with the Twins last year. He’s an intriguing talent, but the results haven’t been there consistently enough for fantasy managers to trust him as a streaming option, even against a relatively weak Marlins lineup.

It was a disastrous start to the game for Prielipp, who saw the first three batters he faced on the day reach base via a single, a hit by pitch, and an error. Steven Kwan came home to score on the error that allowed José Ramírez to reach base, and a sac fly by Rhys Hoskins gave the Guardians an early 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Prielipp would surrender a two-run homer to Travis Bazzana to push the Guardians’ lead to 4-0, but he would settle in to pitch four scoreless frames and was fortunate enough to have only one of those four runs count against him in the earned runs department. Prielipp has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his four starts this season and saw his ERA lowered to 3.32 on the season with Friday’s outing. He’ll look to rebound from this tough loss in his next start, which is scheduled for Thursday against the Marlins.
