Blue Jays sent RHP Simeon Woods Richardson outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Woods Richardson could elect free agency after being designated for assignment and unclaimed, but for now, it appears the 25-year-old will remain in the Toronto organization. He’ll need to be added to the 40-man roster if the Blue Jays deem him worth of an MLB roster spot.

JJ Wetherholt is back in the lineup for the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Reds.

Wetherholt is back at shortstop and leading off after sitting out the front-end of Monday’s twin bill at Great American Ball Park. The 23-year-old rookie sensation has struggled since last month’s All-Star break, hitting just .185 (20-for-108) with three homers and four steals in 29 games during that span. His return pushes electrifying top prospect Joshua Báez back to the fifth spot in the order for the nightcap affair.

Rockies recalled RHP TJ Shook from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Shook gets another shot in the big leagues after making four underwhelming relief appearances for the Rockies earlier this season. The 28-year-old righty has recorded 11 saves along with an encouraging 3.02 ERA across 47 2/3 innings on the doorstep of the majors this year. He figures to operate in middle relief out of Colorado’s bullpen.

Rockies designated RHP Michael Lorenzen for assignment.

The Rockies are pulling the plug on the Lorenzen experience with six weeks left in the season after he was torched for six runs over 3 2/3 innings by the division-rival Giants last week. The well-traveled 34-year-old struggled to a bloated 7.08 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 82/49 K/BB ratio across 115 2/3 innings in his Colorado debut.

Jahmai Jones was scratched from the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks.

No word yet on the reason for the move. Jones has been replaced by Mickey Gasper at DH with Nick Sogard moving up to the leadoff spot to face Arizona lefty Mitch Bratt.

Hunter Goodman (shoulder) is back in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Dodgers.

Fantasy manager can safely exhale with Goodman returning to Colorado’s lineup following a three-game absence due to shoulder inflammation. The 26-year-old slugging backstop has seemingly managed to avoid a trip to the injured list and will get a chance to face Dodgers lefty Blake Snell at Coors Field on Monday night. He’s delivered first-round fantasy value this season, slashing .251/.320/.541 with 69 runs scored, 34 home runs, 69 RBI and five steals in 460 plate appearances.

Spencer Torkelson is out of the lineup for Monday’s game against the Pirates.

Torkelson grabs a seat on the bench with Colt Keith handling the cold corner against Pittsburgh starter Carmen Mlodzinski. The 26-year-old first baseman has hit a robust .291 (30-for-103) with four homers and 20 RBI in 28 games since last month’s All-Star break.

Trevor Story (abdomen) told reporters he could potentially return from the injured list later this week.

Story added that he’s feels fine from a physical standpoint after kicking off a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend. The 33-year-old veteran shortstop has missed the entirety of Boston’s remarkable midseason turnaround while recovering from sports hernia surgery. It sounds like he could return later this week after getting a few additional rehab games under his belt. Andruw Monasterio has done a remarkable job handling shortstop for the Red Sox over the last few weeks.

Alec Burleson doubled in two runs in the first and the Cardinals held on from there to top the Reds 2-1 in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader.

Burleson also singled later on. He’s up to 92 RBI, giving him one more than CJ Abrams and Sal Stewart for the major league lead. His 32 doubles lead the majors by two ahead of Rafael Devers, Matt Olson and Bryan Reynolds.

Quinn Mathews was lifted after allowing one run and striking out seven in four innings Monday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Reds.

It took Matthews 95 pitches to get 12 outs, so he wasn’t allowed to try to qualify for the win with a 2-1 lead. Still, this makes two solid outings in two tries for him this month. He’ll rejoin Triple-A Memphis after serving as the 27th man today, but he should get a chance to make more starts for the Cardinals before the end of the year.

Riley O’Brien struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 31st save in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Reds.

O’Brien made it look pretty easy today, though it helped that he was facing Eugenio Suárez (36 percent strikeout rate), Dane Myers (26 percent strikeout rate) and Michael Toglia (just his sixth game this season but a 39 percent strikeout rate last year). O’Brien has allowed one hit over 10 scoreless innings in his last 10 appearances.
