Pete Crow-Armstrong will not compete in next month’s All-Star Home Run Derby.

Crow-Armstrong has vowed to participate at some point in his career, but it won’t be during this year’s Midsummer Classic. The 24-year-old fantasy force has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball since the start of June, crushing 10 homers across 25 contests during that span.
Swanson red-hot in 'unfathomable' turnaround
James Schiano highlights Dansby Swanson's offensive surge over the past 13 games with the Cubs, which includes nine homers, 29 RBIs, and a place in the history books.

Reds activated RHP Hunter Greene from the 60-day injured list.

Greene returns to Cincinnati’s rotation after missing the first three months of the season recovering from surgery to remove bone chips and loose bodies from his pitching elbow. The hard-throwing 26-year-old fantasy ace shouldn’t have any workload restrictions in his long-awaited season debut after throwing 82 pitches over 6 1/3 innings during his final rehab start for Triple-A Louisville last weekend. He’s struggled to stay healthy since arriving in the majors a couple years ago, but delivered a phenomenal 2.76 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 132/26 K/BB ratio across 107 2/3 innings last year, making him one of the more impactful arms in the fantasy landscape on a per-inning basis.

Petty loses his spot with the Reds in a multi-inning relief role with ace Hunter Greene returning from the injured list to make his season debut. The 23-year-old has delivered a respectable 4.37 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 9/7 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings this season.

Reds designated OF Will Benson for assignment.

Benson showed some flashes of power/speed combo fantasy potential at various points during his career, but was never quite able to establish himself as a long-term everyday option for the Reds in a corner-outfield role. The 28-year-old has been removed from Cincinnati’s crowded 40-man roster after being shipped to the minors back in late June. He figures to attract some interest on waivers.

The Dodgers are calling up Eliezer Alfonzo from Triple-A Oklahoma City, according to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.

Alfonzo finally receives the call to the big leagues after spending nearly a decade in the minors. The 26-year-old Venezuelan native was hitting .313/.392/.422 with one homer at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. He’ll give the Dodgers some additional catching depth behind Dalton Rushing with the club deciding to move on from Chuckie Robinson, who went 2-for-23 in eight games since being called up.

Brandon Nimmo (shoulder) is back in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Tigers.

Nimmo returns to right field and is hitting cleanup following a four-game absence after suffering a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder last weekend. The 33-year-old corner outfielder somehow managed to avoid a trip to the injured list and only wound up missing a couple games. He’s hitting .262/.333/.420 with eight homers, 29 RBI and three steals in 354 plate appearances in his Rangers debut this season.

Nationals acquired LHP Tom Cosgrove from the Astros for cash.

Cosgrove fortifies Washington’s paper-thin left-handed relief depth. He’ll head to Triple-A Rochester after posting a respectable 4.30 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 29/21 K/BB ratio across 29 1/3 innings in Houston’s system this season. He’s made 74 career appearances in the big leagues since 2023.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Max Fried (elbow) is close to making a minor league rehab start.

Fried is slated to throw roughly 35 pitches during a live batting practice session later this weekend with Boone adding that he’ll do so again next week before potentially heading out for a minor league rehab start. The 32-year-old fantasy ace has been out with a bone bruise in his elbow since mid-May. It looks like he has a strong chance of returning to New York’s rotation sometime after the All-Star break.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Clarke Schmidt (elbow) could face hitters in a live batting practice session next week.

Schmidt is on track to progress to facing hitters before the All-Star break and figures to rejoin New York’s pitching equation at some point in the second half. He could wind up being utilized as a multi-inning relief option if there isn’t a rotation spot available once he’s ready to go. The 30-year-old has been on the shelf all season recovering from last year’s Tommy John surgery.

Kumar Rocker will have his next start pushed back to Sunday against the Tigers.

Rocker will receive an extra day of rest with Cal Quantrill being moved up to take the ball on Saturday afternoon against Detroit. The 26-year-old has strung together back-to-back strong outings, striking out 14 batters and allowing just two runs over 11 innings against the Blue Jays and Marlins in his last two starts. There’s some definite streaming appeal for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues based on his recent efforts.

Red Sox RHP Tommy Kahnle elected free agency.

No surprise here. Kahnle will test the open market after declining an outright assignment from the Red Sox. The 36-year-old veteran reliever posted an underwhelming 8.00 ERA across nine innings during a couple weeks in Boston’s bullpen.
