Astros bring back Christian Roa on minors pact

Bolte’s first four-hit game as a major leaguer put him at .279/.362/.407 through 455 plate appearances. His second double tonight left his bat at 115.1 mph, which is a new high for him. He previously topped out at 113.7 mph on a single against the Rays just last week.

Springs entered the fifth with a 5-2 lead, but he wasn’t allowed to go for the win after hitting the second batter he faced. Geoff Hartlieb replaced him and allowed the runner to score before ending the inning. Springs finishes 4-14 with a 6.18 ERA and a 112/57 K/BB in 142 2/3 innings. He’ll be a free agent this winter after the A’s decline a $15 million club option.

Ureña ends an excellent rookie season on an unfortunate down note, giving up five runs for just the second time. As a result, he finishes 9-11 with a 2.97 ERA for a bad Angels team. His ability to get both grounders and strikeouts makes him a fine bet going forward, especially if his command improves some with experience.

Walton got it done against the team he started the year with. He actually did better for the Halos (.319/.354/.505 in 32 games) than he has been since the A’s claimed him off waivers (.234/.376/.438), but the overall showing could be enough to keep him on the 40-man roster this winter. Although he’s 32, he has just under two years of service time and would make close to the minimum next year.

Trout’s 393-foot homer off Jeffrey Springs was the 426th of his career. That moves him into a tie with Billy Williams for 53rd all time. His next will tie him with Mike Piazza.

Moore hit .198 with 184 plate appearances for the Angels as a rookie last year, but at least he had seven homers and 19 walks then. In 131 plate appearances this season, he’s managed only one homer and is sporting a 45/8 K/BB. It seems highly unlikely that he’ll enter 2027 with much chance of winning a roster spot.

Stowers’ two-run shot off Kevin Gausman in the sixth inning broke a 0-0 tie and despite blowing their lead in the bottom of that frame, helped the Marlins to eventually win. A poor start and late season injury have hurt his final line, but Stowers is now up to 21 home runs and a .791 OPS through 120 games.

What is going on here? Alcantara leads the league with 213 innings pitched and weirdly, two have come in relief over the past week. With a save in each, Alcantara also became the first pitcher to alternate four outings with a start going at least five innings and a save since the save became an official stat in 1969. The first of those saves seemed like an act of desperation by the Marlins amidst bullpen issues and at the time, they were still alive in the playoff race. Now, they’re eliminated and still tried this for a second time. Since Eury Pérez has also come out of the bullpen in the past week, this feels like some sort of experiment. Regardless, these two surprising saves from Alcantara could have swung a few fantasy leagues.

Gusto was lights out for five innings here. To that point, he’d scattered four hits and hadn’t let up a run. Then, the Cubs got two quick hits in the sixth, he was pulled, and Michael Petersen let both inherited runners score. Still, Gusto with his strong fastball and deep seven-pitch mix turned in another fine start here. Six of those seven forced a whiff and it’s a repertoire that could lead to a potential rotation spot down the line.

Swanson’s two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning brought home the only runs the Cubs would score in this loss to the Marlins. It tied the game at the moment, but Chicago’s bullpen would blow it later on. Alas, Swanson has now gone 4-for-15 with three runs scored and three RBI in four games since being activated off the injured list.
