Tanner Scott blows away Padres in ninth

Scott blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning on Monday. but things went smoothly tonight, as he threw just 11 pitches in getting a flyout and then two K’s.

Scott managed to walk Ezequiel Tovar with one out before giving up a single and an RBI double. At that point, he intentionally walked Hunter Goodman to load the bases. He followed that with a dominant three-pitch strikeout against TJ Rumfield, but Cole Carrigg then doubled to the gap with two outs. It seemed poised to give the Rockies the lead, but Goodman was called out at the plate after a replay review. It’s just Scott’s second blown save of the year and first to come in the ninth inning. He’ll remain the Dodgers’ primary closer for now, but it does look like the team will be getting Edwin Díaz back before the end of the month.

Roberts also noted that the Dodgers’ closer looked “really good” during the session. He remains on track to rejoin the club’s bullpen after the All-Star break, which would shift Tanner Scott back into a setup role.

Henriquez had one save in three appearances in his debut in 2024, one in 22 appearances last year and now has one in 31 appearances while posting a 2.76 ERA in 32 2/3 innings this season. He had the ninth today after Tanner Scott came in with two outs in the seventh and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for a hold. Scott should remain the Dodgers’ primary closer until Edwin Díaz returns.

Scott was able to work around a lead-off single by Austin Martin in a one run game to secure the save. That was his fifth consecutive converted save over the past two weeks and he’s cruising as the Dodgers’ closer with a 2.18 ERA on the season. Expect elite production out of him until Edwin Díaz eventually returns.

Scott retired the Twins in order in the ninth inning to pick up his 10th save. His ERA is down to 2.25 this year. Edwin Diaz is on track to return next month, but Scott has been excellent in the closer role and will still have fantasy value until Diaz is back.

Scott got the call to work the ninth inning with a one-run lead over the Rays. He made quick work, striking out two batters in a perfect frame on just 11 pitches. The 31-year-old left-hander picks up his ninth save of the season to go with a 2.32 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and a 38/3 K/BB ratio across 31 innings.

Scott got two groundouts to go along with one strikeout. Edwin Díaz appears to be on track to return from elbow surgery next month, but until then, Scott will be well worth using in all formats.

Scott came on to get the final out in the eighth inning with a man on second base and two outs, and he got Brandon Lowe to fly out harmlessly to right field. He then stayed on for the ninth where he struck out Bryan Reynolds, Ryan O’Hearn and Spencer Horwitz in succession to end the ballgame. The 31-year-old southpaw now holds a 2.48 ERA and a 35/3 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings on the season while notching seven saves.

Brought into a 2-2 game to start the bottom of the ninth, Scott struck out Tommy Troy and then gave up a homer on a 97-mph fastball at the bottom of the zone to end the game. It was more of a good swing than a bad pitch, but this is Scott’s second misstep in three appearances. He still has a 2.42 ERA and an impressive 30/3 K/BB in 26 innings on the season.
