    Dodgers released LHP Jake Eder.

Eder allowed one run over four innings across four relief outings for Los Angeles earlier this year. The 27-year-old lefty should be able to latch on somewhere else on a minor league pact.

Eder allowed one run on three hits in four innings out of the Dodgers’ bullpen with one strikeout and one walk. He should get another shot over the summer.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher
Eder has been summoned to join Los Angeles’ relief mix with closer Edwin Díaz hitting the injured list with loose bodies in his right elbow. The 27-year-old southpaw was acquired in a small trade with the Nationals earlier this month. He’s made nine relief appearances in the big leagues since 2024 and figures to operate in middle relief.

Eder had been designated for assignment by the Nationals over the weekend, so they will at least be able to get something for him. The 27-year-old had once been a high-upside prospect, but he has now failed to stick with the Marlins, White Sox, and Nationals. It’s a long shot that the Dodgers will find a way to change that trajectory. He will head to Triple-A Oklahoma City to see.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #46
Eder showed tremendous promise when drafted out of Vanderbilt in 2020, but injuries have stalled his career significantly. It won’t be a huge surprise if someone puts in a claim on the 27-year-old as a depth piece/reclamation project, but it won’t be a big surprise if teams don’t have interest, either.

Eder was once a high-upside prospect with the Marlins, but an injury in 2022 changed the trajectory of his career. He wasn’t able to latch on with the White Sox or Angels after that and was traded to the Nationals back in July. He did have a fine spring, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out six and walking six. The Nationals will keep working on getting him back to his old self in Triple-A.

The run scored in the second because Eder failed to cover first on a hot shot bobbled by Abimelec Ortiz. Eder also caught a break in the first, when Zach Cole was thrown out trying to tag up from second on a fly to right. On the mound, though, Eder looked pretty good today. He topped out at 96.4 mph and averaged 94.1 mph with his fastball, which was up one mph from last year. He’s not a part of the Nationals’ projected rotation, but there should be plenty of opportunity if he gets off to a nice start.

Eder was once one of the more intriguing left-handed pitching prospects in baseball, but injuries and inconsistent results have made him closer to organizational depth than top prospect. He’ll get a chance to show at the age of 26 he’s got more in the tank, but fantasy managers should take a wait-and-see approach before considering him as a fantasy option.

Eder logged six innings out of the Angels’ bullpen on Wednesday, which unfortunately means that he wasn’t going to be available for at least a few days, so the Angels wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen to take his place. The 26-year-old southpaw holds a 4.91 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 15/9 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 innings with the Halos this season.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #39
Brock Burke opened today, allowing one run in the first, and Sam Bachman finished with a scoreless second. After that, it was all Eder, though he wouldn’t have come back out for the ninth had the Angels pulled off a comeback. Four of the five runs scored in Eder’s first inning of work, but he was quite effective afterwards, retiring 13 of the final 15 batters he faced. It’s unclear if he’ll stay up and face the Rangers next week or head back to Triple-A.

Eder pitched timidly working behind opener Ryan Zeferjahn in this one. He mostly nibbled around the zone with his sliders and allowed hard contact the few times he threw hittable pitches, including a loud three-run home run to Bryce Harper. If he stays on a typical starter’s schedule, he’ll likely pitch again next Wednesday against the Mets, but shouldn’t be seen as much more than an emergency option in even the deepest of leagues.

Ivan Herrera was added to the National League All-Star team as an injury replacement for Dodgers’ superstar Shohei Ohtani.

It’s the first trip to the Mid-Summer Classic for the 26-year-old backstop. Herrera has had a solid first half at the plate, slashing .249/.384/.395 with 11 long balls, 40 RBI and a 68/51 K/BB ratio over 411 plate appearances.

Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday that Shohei Ohtani will have his left knee drained on Sunday.

He still didn’t give any sort of timeline on how long Ohtani will be held off of the mound for, but he did note that if this were September that Ohtani would still be pitching. Take that for what it’s worth. It sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list altogether, though it seems likely that he’ll miss at least a couple of trips through the Dodgers’ rotation.

Blue Jays activated RHP Braydon Fisher from the bereavement list.

The 25-year-old right-hander was away from the team for the first half of the week. He returns to a terrific 3.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 46/21 K/BB ratio over 46 innings in 43 appearances out of the Jays’ bullpen. He has also tallied three victories and a save on the year.

Mickey Moniak is in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Giants.

That’s noteworthy, as it’s the second time in four games this week that Moniak has suited up against a southpaw, though he has hit near the bottom of the lineup in both of those games. Still, fantasy managers have to be thrilled to see him starting to see the field against left-handers to go along with the outstanding production that he has provided against right-handers this season.

Max Muncy is absent from the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Friday evening skirmish against the Diamondbacks.

Muncy will take a seat with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez toeing the slab for the Diamondbacks. Tommy Edman will cover third base in his absence while Miguel Rojas starts at second base and will bat eighth for the Dodgers.

Jake Cronenworth is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s matchup against the Blue Jays.

It looks to be nothing more than a routine night off for the versatile 32-year-old. Cronenworth had started every other game during the week at either first base or second base. Ty France will start at first base and will bat sixth for the Padres against Blue Jays’ right-hander Shane Bieber.

Jacob deGrom has been scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday due to a mild left glute strain.

The Rangers are considering the possibility of placing deGrom on the injured list, but with the timing of the All-Star break they aren’t sure if it’s necessary or not yet. Either way, it sounds like the 38-year-old right-hander should only wind up missing a start or two. No word yet on who will take his place on the slab for Sunday’s first half finale.

Justin Crawford was a late scratch from the Phillies’ starting lineup on Friday night due to soreness in his left knee.

The issue isn’t believed to be major and the 22-year-old outfielder is considered day-to-day. Derek Hill will start in his place in center field on Friday evening against Jack Flaherty and the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Giants optioned LHP Carson Whisenhunt to Triple-A Sacramento.

Whisenhunt pitched the Giants past the Rockies on Thursday, allowing just two runs on three hits over 5 2/3 innings. If there’s still an opening in the Giants’ rotation after the All-Star break, expect Whisenhunt to get another opportunity to stick around. In the meantime, they’ll utilize that roster spot on an extra bullpen arm for the remainder of their weekend series against the Rockies.

Giants activated RHP Keaton Winn from the 15-day injured list.

Winn missed nearly a month’s worth of action due to a right elbow strain. Before landing on the injured list on June 11, the 28-year-old righty had posted a 3.23 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 26/9 K/BB ratio over 30 2/3 innings in his 29 appearances. His return should provide a nice boost to the back end of the Giants’ bullpen.
