Padres recalled RHP Jhony Brito from Triple-A El Paso.

Brito hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2024 campaign after missing last year following UCL surgery. He’s posted a strong 2.30 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 36/15 K/BB ratio across 43 innings over 10 starts in the minors this season. He’s likely to operate in a swingman-type role for the Padres as they continue to cobble together some semblance of a rotation.
Giants' Ramos a 'great option' off waiver wire
James Schiano explores what fantasy managers should make of Heliot Ramos' massive performance on Monday against the Blue Jays, including why he can be a valuable addition off waivers.

Nick Pivetta (elbow) has progressed to throwing bullpen sessions.

It’s the first substantive update regarding Pivetta’s progress since he landed on the shelf with a right elbow flexor strain back in mid-April. The 33-year-old strikeout artist will continue ramping up his throwing progression in the coming weeks and should be ready for a couple minor league rehab starts in August. It sounds like there’s a decent chance he makes it back to San Diego at some point in the second half.

Joe Musgrove (elbow) progressed to throwing off a mound on Tuesday.

Musgrove has made painstakingly-slow progress back Tommy John surgery that he underwent back in late 2024. It was his first time throwing off a bullpen mound since suffering a setback at the conclusion of spring training. The 33-year-old veteran has an outside shot at making it back to San Diego during the second half, but he’s going to be racing the clock to do so.

Braves re-signed 1B Rowdy Tellez to a minor league contract.

Tellez returns to the fold after spending a couple days on the open market. The 31-year-old first baseman went 2-for-10 with one homer during a seven-game stint with Atlanta earlier this month. He’ll continue serving as emergency depth at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Royals signed RHP Justin Topa to a minor league contract.

Topa latches on with the division-rival Royals after struggling to an inflated 8.05 ERA across 19 innings for the Twins earlier this season. The well-traveled 35-year-old will function as organizational relief depth at Triple-A Omaha.

Cubs sent RHP Bryse Wilson outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Wilson has the option to elect free agency, but his clearest path to big-league innings might still be with the injury-depleted Cubs. The 28-year-old was designated for assignment over the weekend after allowing seven runs over 7 2/3 innings for Chicago across two relief appearances.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Chad Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo.

Dallas bolsters Toronto’s relief depth as a viable long man out of the bullpen for the remaining five games out on the West Coast against the Giants and Padres. The 26-year-old rookie allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings against the Red Sox in his big-league debut back on June 4.

Blue Jays optioned OF Yohendrick Piñango to Triple-A Buffalo.

Piñango hit just .174 (4-for-23) with one homer during eight games with the Blue Jays after being brought back on June 27 to replace an injured Jesús Sánchez (ankle). The 24-year-old rookie outfielder makes plenty of loud contact, but he’s a bit of a liability defensively and remains a work in progress.

George Springer remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Giants.

The Blue Jays continue to struggle offensively and they’re without Springer in the lineup for a sixth consecutive contest. The 36-year-old veteran was activated prior to Monday’s series opener, but remains stapled to Toronto’s bench. It’s a bit unclear why he’s not in the lineup at this juncture. Hopefully there is some clarity on his status at some point relatively soon. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys at DH on Tuesday night at Oracle Park.

Jakob Marsee (knee) is in the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Mariners.

Marsee returns without missing any additional time following an early exit from Sunday’s game against the Athletics with a right knee contusion. He’s back patrolling center field and hitting seventh during Tuesday’s series opener at loanDepot park.

Ranger Suarez (adductor) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday.

There’s a chance Suarez, who was able to play catch on Tuesday without any issues, will be able to take the ball against the Mets on Saturday to close out the first half, but that decision won’t be made until later this week. It’s a challenging situation for fantasy managers to navigate, but it looks like there’s a decent chance that he avoids a trip to the injured list. He’ll certainly benefit from next week’s extended All-Star break. There should be a definitive update on his status following his next throwing session on Thursday.
