A’s send Muncy back down to Triple-A

Caglianone is back in right field and hitting third following a brief two-game absence due to ankle soreness. The 23-year-old slugger has been on fire since last month’s All-Star break, hitting .322 (37-for-115) with seven homers, 25 RBI and three steals in 31 games. It’s a massive relief for fantasy managers that he’s feeling better and managed to avoid a trip to the injured list.

No surprise following Massey’s departure from Tuesday’s contest with a possible head injury after falling down while making an excellent defensive play in the fifth inning. He’ll presumably continue to be monitored for any concussion symptoms and will get some extra time off for precautionary reasons. It’ll be speedster Tyler Tolbert taking over at second base in his absence.

No word yet on the reason for the swap. Nasim Nuñez takes over at shortstop with CJ Abrams moving to DH and José Tena getting the nod at second base.

Tovar wound up only missing one contest after suffering a left wrist strain when he attempted to make a diving catch in shallow left field during Monday’s series opener. It appears he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list, but wrist issues tend to have an adverse impact on a hitter’s on-field performance, especially from a power perspective.

Contreras has managed to play through an avalanche of physical issues without missing too much time during his Red Sox debut. It appears to be a routine day off with Nick Sogard getting a chance to handle the cold corner. He should be ready to roll for Friday’s pivotal series opener against the Yankees.

DeLauter takes a seat for the third consecutive game due to a lingering left hamstring issue. There’s zero reason for Cleveland to take any chances with an off-day looming before Friday’s series opener against the Royals. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the remainder of the week.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz pretty much dismissed the notion that Alonso, who went 4-for-4 with his 31st homer of the season, was removed from Tuesday’s blowout win due to a minor calf issue. However, the fact that he’s at DH the following day seems to give those concerns some validity. It doesn’t appear to be a significant concern, but he dealt with a similar issue a couple weeks ago. It’s a variable that fantasy managers should continue monitoring for the remainder of the week.

The move is now official. Perales will operate in a multi-inning relief role out of Washington’s bullpen and figures to make his big-league debut following starter Matt Waldron during Wednesday’s game against the Rockies. The 23-year-old top prospect possesses impressive raw stuff, but is still dealing with persistent control issues. The hope among scouts and evaluators was that he would be able to improve his command and stick as a starter long-term. He’s posted a respectable 3.64 ERA and 97/55 K/BB ratio across 96 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. Perales, who came over from the Red Sox in the Jake Bennett trade last offseason, is an interesting prospect, but isn’t quite ready to make a sustained fantasy impact at this stage in his trajectory.

Just last night, Cruz said he was healthy, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone “downplayed the idea that the reliever is battling fatigue.” However, Cruz had been struggling with increased usage, leading to a drop in velocity and a lack of effectiveness on his signature splitter. It turns out, he was battling through an elbow injury after all.

Fulmer was designated for assignment by the Angels after making three appearances in which he registered a 1.09 WHIP and a 4/2 K/BB ratio over 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He will immediately join the Yankees bullpen.
