Dylan Cease took a no-hitter into the ninth before allowing one hit and exiting the Blue Jays’ 10-0 shutout of the Giants on Wednesday.

Cease was at 106 pitches after seven, but he clearly wanted to continue, and after a nine-pitch eighth, he was allowed to start the ninth. He wound up throwing just three pitches then, the last of which was a clean single from Heliot Ramos. Tyler Walker replaced him and preserved the shutout against his former club. Cease, who pitched a no-hitter for the Padres in 2024, struck out 11 and walked three. He has six 10-strikeout games this season and 31 for his career. The first-time All-Star closes out the first half 6-4 with a 2.56 ERA. He’s second in the majors with 148 strikeouts and seventh in ERA.

Dylan Cease fanned nine in seven innings in the Blue Jays’ 2-0 shutout of the Mariners on Friday.

Jeff Hoffman and Louis Varland finished up the four-hitter. Cease allowed three hits and walked one in his fourth scoreless start this season. He’s second in the majors with 137 strikeouts and 11th with a 2.79 ERA. He’s given up five homers, which is tied with Ranger Suarez for the lowest total among qualified starters. Although Cease finished second in the AL Cy Young balloting in 2022 and fourth in the NL balloting in 2026, the All-Star nod he’s sure to pick up on Saturday will be the first of his career.

Dylan Cease allowed four runs while striking out 10 batters over 4 2/3 innings in a loss against the Rangers on Saturday.

Cease had trouble finding the zone in the first inning against the Rangers. It cost him, with a run scoring on a base hit after two free passes. He settled down for three quiet innings before running into more trouble in the fifth. Cease walked a batter and allowed a run in on two hits with two outs in the inning. He couldn’t make it out of the frame, ending his day at 107 pitches. Both inherited runners would come in to score, adding two more runs to his line. He struck out 10 to help limit the damage. The 30-year-old right-hander will look to bounce back when he takes a 3.02 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 128/40 K/BB ratio across 83 1/3 innings into a start against the Mariners in Seattle on Friday.

Dylan Cease allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Blue Jays’ 4-2 victory over the Astros on Monday.

Cease gave up three hits, walked four and struck out eight. He’s allowed three earned runs in 16 2/3 innings with 26 strikeouts and nine walks in three starts since returning from the injured list. Cease has a 2.75 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Rangers at home this weekend.

Sunday’s game between the Blue Jays and Cubs was postponed due to inclement weather.

It’ll be made up on August 6. There’s actually a ton to unpack here from a fantasy fallout standpoint. Toronto’s scheduled starter, Dylan Cease, will presumably take the ball for Monday’s series opener against the Astros. That would delay Shane Bieber’s return from the injured list for his season debut until Tuesday’s showdown in the Rogers Centre. Cease would close out a two-start week with a showdown against the Rangers at home. Meanwhile, Shota Imanaga gets the ball on Monday against the free-falling Mets as a part of a two-start week that wraps up with a road tilt against the Brewers.

Dylan Cease threw five shutout innings but walked four in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.

In his second start back from the injured list, Cease allowed four hits and walked four while striking out seven. He posted 16 whiffs on the day with a 15 percent swinging strike rate, but he threw only 61 percent of his pitches for strikes. He really struggled to land both his curve and changeup for strikes, but, luckily, he threw enough strikes with his four-seam fastball, and his slider missed more than enough bats. He gets a tougher test against the Cubs next week, but he’s obviously somebody you’re keeping in your lineups.

Making his return from the IL, Dylan Cease threw six innings of one-run ball and struck out 11 in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Phillies.

Cease was excellent in allowing just three hits and one walk, but Zach Wheeler matched him to make it a 1-1 game after six. Those rostering Cease should still be very encouraged, as he allowed just four hard-hit balls and one walk while getting is 18 outs tonight. He’ll face the Red Sox in Boston next week.

Blue Jays activated RHP Dylan Cease from the 15-day injured list.

Cease returns from a two-week stint on the injured list recovering from a left hamstring strain to take the ball against the Phillies at the Rogers Centre on Tuesday night. The 30-year-old upper-echelon fantasy starter holds a strong 3.05 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 92/26 K/BB ratio across 62 innings over 11 starts in his Blue Jays debut this season. His return will provide a much-needed lift for Toronto’s rotation mix and fantasy managers alike.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed Dylan Cease (hamstring) will be activated from the injured list to start Tuesday’s game against the Phillies.

Schneider also added that Max Scherzer (forearm) will be activated to start Wednesday’s series finale at the Rogers Centre with Trey Yesavage being pushed back to Friday’s showdown against the Yankees. The influx of veteran reinforcements also pushes rookie standout Spencer Miles back to a long relief role. It’s a stunning turn of events that Toronto has a legitimate five-man rotation again after piecing things together for most of the last two months. Cease threw 75 pitches in his final rehab outing and shouldn’t have any limitations in his return from the injured list.

Max Scherzer (forearm) told reporters on Sunday that he’s ready to rejoin the Blue Jays’ rotation on Wednesday.

Scherzer threw 3 2/3 innings in a minor league rehab start at Triple-A Buffalo on Friday and completed a bullpen session on Sunday morning without any issues. With Scherzer and Dylan Cease both likely to return to the rotation during the upcoming week, the Jays will have some decisions to make on how to structure their rotation going forward.

Dylan Cease (hamstring) allowed five runs on six hits in four innings for Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.

The veteran also struck out six and walked one while throwing 50 of his 75 pitches for strikes and hitting 99 mph on the radar gun. The results clearly aren’t great, but Cease had solid command and showed his usual velocity, and those are the main concerns. He should be able to rejoin the Blue Jays rotation next week and be up over 80 pitches in that outing.

Twins optioned RHP Jack Anderson to Triple-A St. Paul.

The 26-year-old right-hander was claimed off of waivers from the Red Sox on Saturday. He’ll begin his Twins’ tenure at Triple-A St. Paul where he’ll serve as extra rotation depth for the Twins. Anderson holds a 4.81 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 51/21 K/BB ratio over 58 innings in 16 appearances (11 starts) at the Triple-A level this season.

France broke a 7-7 knot with a homer to left field to give San Diego the 8-7 lead and ultimately the victory. The 31-year-old has been a surprising source of power for the Padres in 2026, as he’s up to 11 homers on the campaign with an excellent .490 slugging percentage. Skepticism is understandable, but don’t forget that France was a solid option not that long ago. It’s not insane to think he’s refinding that form in his return to his first organization.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered and stole a base, but it wasn’t enough for the Blue Jays on Saturday in an 8-7 loss to the Padres.

Guerrero’s three-run homer tied the game at 7-7, and was a towering shot over the left-field wall off Bradgley Rodriguez. That’s just the sixth homer of the season for Guerrero, but it’s the second time in three games, for those looking for hope heading into the break. Guerrero is as good of bet as any disappointing hitter in baseball to bounce back with a big second half after the All-Star break.

Miller did put the tying run on base, but he was able to work around that knock without trouble while fanning a pair. It’s been nothing short of a dominant first half for the 27-year-old; one that has seen him save 24 games with a sparking 0.93 ERA. In a different era, Miller would likely be in the Cy Young conversation.

Buehler had horrendous control of his arsenal with four walks and just 34-of-65 pitches landing in the strike zone, and yet he was Greg Maddux compared to Trey Yesavage (seven walks, 20-of-59 pitches for strikes). The right-hander has just not looked the part as of late, and he’s seen his ERA bump up to 5.36 from the 3.81 it sat at just four outings ago. Buehler’s next start will come after the All-Star break, but it sure seems like his place in the San Diego rotation should be up for debate.

Trey Yesavage gave up four runs while going just 1 2/3 innings but didn’t factor into the decision Sunday against the Padres.

If you like games that feature pitchers throwing strikes — also known as a ‘normal human being’ in some parts — this one wasn’t for you. Toronto and San Diego combined for a whopping 17 free passes in this one, and Yesavage was responsible for relatively close to half of those walks. Four of them came in the first inning, including three to begin the outing and a bases-loaded base on balls a batter later. He threw just 20 of his 59 pitches for strikes, and he issued just one strikeout. Yesavage had solid prior to Saturday, so the hope is that this is just a one-off for the 22-year-old.

Arenado also drew a walk. The 35-year-old took Landon Knack deep for his 12th homer of the season and extended the D-backs’ lead to 9-2. Arenado has hit .243/.318/.413 in his first season with Arizona, and while that’s a far cry from his best seasons with the Rockies and briefly with the Cardinals, it’s serviceable. You can do worse than serviceable.

Yep, that James McCann. He cemented the blowout with a three-run homer off Yoshinobu Yamamoto — yep, that’s Yoshinobu Yamamoto — and he added another with a solo shot against Landon Knack. McCann is not in Arizona for his offense, and while this was an impressive effort, it’s impossible to predict any sort of consistent replication.

Since being recalled from Triple-A, Pfaadt has allowed just four runs over 15 2/3 innings, and he’ll look to keep the good run going after the All-Star break.

Yamamoto allowed five hits, and he struck out six while issuing four walks. The normally effective — effective seems like an understatement — was solid over the first five innings with just one run allowed, but fell apart in the sixth while allowing a five-piece; including a three-run homer from James McCann. Yamamoto’s first half was excellent despite this clunker, and he’ll be one of the first starters for the Dodgers after the break. It’s worth noting he’s not pitching in the All-Star break, so fantasy managers won’t have to wait long.
