Dbacks to recall Ryan Waldschmidt, DFA Pavin Smith

It’s hard to downplay an injury much more than calling it mild tightness. We’ll have to wait and see, but just imagine if DeLauter isn’t back out there on Tuesday when he has only mild tightness.

With Davis Martin on the IL and Noah Schultz back in the minors, the White Sox currently have just three true rotation guys in Sean Burke, Luis Castillo and Anthony Kay. After Castillo starts Monday, they’ll rely heavily on the pen in the final two games of their series against the Cubs. With Thursday off, they could then perhaps split up their bulk-guy days next time through the rotation.

Robles was hurt trying a diving catch in the ninth inning last night. It’s possible he’ll be available off the bench. With Robles and Taylor Ward both out, the Mariners have Dominic Canzone in right field and Weston Wilson DHing tonight.

The D-backs could give Jose Fernandez another look if Arenado goes on the IL. Tim Tawa could also play third base, opening up some extra at-bats for Tyler Locklear. Jordan Lawlar is about ready to come off the IL, too, but since he’s only played outfield this year, Arenado’s injury probably doesn’t do anything for him.

If Martin goes on the IL, the Twins would probably prefer to replace him with another right-handed bat, which could get Gabriel Gonzalez a look. Kevin Fedko would have been the obvious choice, but he just went on the injured list in Triple-A.

Painter struck out two and walked three, raising his ERA to 6.43. He gave up a grand slam to Brooks Lee in the bottom of the first and settled down somewhat after that inning, though Kody Clemens tagged him for a solo shot in the third. Before Sunday, Painter had pitched better since being recalled at the end of July. He still has a ways to go before he can be relied on in standard fantasy leagues. A home start against the Cardinals is up next.

Duran struck out three while allowing one hit and one walk. He has simply been dominant and is on pace to set a career high in saves despite missing time with an injury earlier this year. Duran came over at last summer’s trade deadline, and he hadn’t been used as a full-time closer until joining the Phillies. He totaled 32 saves between Minnesota and Philadelphia in 2025, and he’s since taken his game to another level. Mason Miller is the only qualified reliever with a higher K-BB% this season.

Kremer struck out six and walked two. It was the first time he struggled in three starts since coming over from the Orioles ahead of this summer’s trade deadline. He had been hit extremely hard in his final outings with Baltimore, so his performance with Minnesota has been encouraging. Consider him a deep-league streamer when he visits the Padres next time out.

Bohm launched a three-run homer off Dean Kremer in the top of the sixth to bring the game within a run. He later added an RBI single that tied things up in the eighth. The 30-year-old corner infielder has been on fire this month, having entered Sunday batting .367 with an .888 OPS.

Lee connected for a grand slam off Andrew Painter in the bottom of the first, but Minnesota could only muster one more run the rest of the way. The 25-year-old infielder is up to 18 homers and seven stolen bases on the year, but he entered Sunday with a league-average batting line. The former first-round pick will likely need to show sustained improvement by the end of 2027 to remain part of the team’s future core. It’s notable that he shifted from shortstop to third base earlier this summer.
