Jackson Jobe (elbow) fans four in rehab start

Jobe gave up four hits, walked two and struck out seven. He bounced back after allowing five runs in his last start, a loss to the Twins. Jobe was sharper and his seven strikeouts were the most he’s had in a start since returning from injury and tied his career-high that was set last year. He has a 4.45 ERA. Jobe is lined up to face the Rockies at home next weekend.

Jobe gave up six hits, walked two and struck out four. He fell to 1-2 in five starts with the loss. Jobe was victimized by two home runs, allowing a solo shot to Kody Clemens in the fourth inning and a three-run shot to Ryan Jeffers in the fifth inning. Jobe has only allowed four home runs in 23 1/3 innings, but more concerning is his 4.63 ERA and 19 strikeouts. He’s lined up to face the Guardians on the road on Saturday.

His first start back was more exciting and encouraging that the last two, and he seems like a fringe mixed-league option in a lone start at home against the Rays next week.

The 24-year-old hurler struck out four batters in the ballgame while issuing just one walk. He had only allowed one run through the first three innings, but the wheels fell off for him in the fourth inning. There, the White Sox struck for five runs as Tristan Peters slugged a two-run homer, Munetaka Murakami added a solo shot and Braden Montgomery smacked a two-run triple. Jobe got seven whiffs on 74 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll try to put this rough outing behind him as he brings a 6.23 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and an 8/2 K/BB ratio into Wednesday’s battle against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Jobe had never touched 100 mph before in the major leagues, but reached that mark on his first inning strikeout of Bryce Eldridge. Jobe threw 71 pitches and will continue to be on a pitch count for at least his next few starts. That might hinder his ability to work deep into games right now, but Jobe certainly showed enough to be worth grabbing in mixed leagues. He’s lined up to face the White Sox next weekend.

While he won’t make his highly anticipated 2026 debut until Saturday, Jobe rejoins the Tigers’ active roster on Friday evening. If the Tigers are going to make a serious push for a playoff berth in the American League, Jobe is going to have to play a major role in making up for the departures of Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize. Brenan Hanifee was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.

Jobe will draw into Detroit’s new-look rotation following the departures of Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize at the trade deadline when they kick off a three-game series in San Francisco later this week. The hard-throwing 24-year-old was one of the top pitching prospects in baseball in the not-so-distant past and will be making his return to the majors after missing most of the last two seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery. He’s struck out 17 batters over 15 1/3 innings during five minor league rehab outings. There are probably going to be some workload restrictions down the home stretch, but Jobe is the type of talent that fantasy managers should at the very least be monitoring closely.

The 23-year-old right-hander struck out four batters on the day while issuing a pair of walks. He’ll meet up with the Tigers and throw his next bullpen session at Comerica Park before heading to Triple-A Toledo to make his next rehab start. It’s unclear if he’s going to work out of the rotation or the bullpen initially once he is ready to return, though how hard the Tigers push him will likely be determined by whether or not they fall out of the playoff race in the American League.

Jobe hit triple digits with a pair of fastballs, according to MLB.com’s Jason Beck. The 23-year-old former top prospect threw 24 of 32 pitches for strikes in his first rehab outing since last year’s Tommy John surgery. He’ll need a handful of additional starts to continue building up his pitch count and stamina before he’s an option for Detroit’s pitching staff. He figures to be ready to contribute at some point during the second half.
