Merrill Kelly yields three runs in no-decision

Arraez will play second base, with Bryson Stott moving to third and Alec Bohm to first. That will shift Bryce Harper, who brought his outfielder’s glove on the current road trip, back to the grass. This doesn’t change much for anybody’s fantasy value, but it will be nice for Harper to have multiple position eligibility in 2027 fantasy leagues.

Micheletti Jr. is enjoying a nice year at Double-A, slashing .251/.347/.454 with 14 home runs, 60 runs scored, and five steals in 93 games. That comes with a 70/46 K/B ratio and just a seven percent swinging strike rate, so he has a good understanding of the strike zone and strong contact skills. However, he is also old for the level at 24 years old, so this return was mostly about getting Nimmala.

This is fun because Davis went to Oklahoma State, where he was teammates with young Mets stars Nolan McLean and Carson Benge. Davis is a huge human being at 6'9", 235 pounds, but he has struggled at Double-A this season. He can hit Triple-A digits with his fastball and has flashed a plus slider as well. He’s a pretty interesting ball of clay for the Mets pitching development team to work with.

Franklin is 27 years old and has pitched to a 4.37 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 60/14 K/BB ratio in 45 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season. The strikeout stuff is there, and he doesn’t have poor command, but he has really struggled with home runs, posting a 2.18 HR/FB that is skewing his ERA. Those home run issues have not been prevalent at the lower levels, so the Mets are banking on it not carrying over to the big leagues. He’s an interesting gamble for the bullpen.

This move was reported last night and is now official. Brazobán had been pitching in the middle innings for the Mets while posting a 2.56 ERA and a 49/23 K/BB in 52 2/3 innings. He will be a nice, reliable piece for the White Sox bullpen.

The Phillies certainly needed an extra reliable arm in the bullpen, and Raley has been that for the Mets, posting a 1.96 ERA in 41 1/3 innings this season. He’ll operate in the middle innings and give the Phillies some help getting the games to Jhoan Duran.

Arraez is continuing to do what he’s always done and hit, slashing .324/.360/.440 on the season for the Giants with four home runs, 52 runs scored, and 10 steals. What’s new this year is that he’s playing tremendous defense at second base. Which begs the question of what’s next for the Phillies? The Phillies have Bryson Stott at second base, Bryce Harper at first base, and Kyle Schwarber at DH, so there don’t seem to be any openings for Arraez. They could opt to move Bryce Harper back to the outfield, or perhaps Stott or third baseman Alec Bohm will be headed somewhere else today.

Soriano is under contract for two more years after this one, so the Blue Jays had to pay a decent price to acquire him. Nimmala was the Blue Jays’ first-round pick in 2023 and is the 43rd-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He’s just 20 years old, but has played at four levels this season, reaching as high as Double-A while slashing .265/.364/.453 with eight home runs, 34 RBI, six steals, and a 60/33 K/BB in 62 games. He needs some time to fill out his frame, and he will need to continue to improve his swing decisions, but he has been making strides there, and the power potential is evident. His acquisition may mean the Angels don’t see Zach Neto as their future shortstop. Angel Rivero is a 19-year-old starter in the Florida Complex League, who has looked good in 42 innings this season but is a long way from the majors.

Soriano will bring a 3.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 25 percent strikeout rate to the Blue Jays rotaiton for the next two seasons. While we wouldn’t expect major changes for him in 2026, this is a nice landing spot for him going forward because the Blue Jays have become a solid pitching development organization that should get the most out of his plus secondaries but inconsistent fastballs. Soriano was originally scheduled to start on Tuesday for the Angels, but we would imagine the Blue Jays would want to give him a little more time with his new team before putting him out on the mound.

This is an interesting pivot for the Blue Jays after trading Kevin Gausman to the Cubs yesterday. Toronto still clearly views itself as a contender in 2027 and beyond, so they replace Gausman with Soriano, who is under team control for two more seasons after this one. Soriano has regressed since his hot start to the season, and his reliance on a mediocre four-seam fastball led to far too many home runs; however, he has a good collection of secondary pitches, and this is a Toronto organization that has gotten the best production out of Dylan Cease by tweaking his changeup. This is a nice landing spot for Soriano, but the Angels get a solid return here, headlined by Arjun Nimalla, a 20-year-old shortstop who is the 43rd-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.
