Booth receives nearly full-slot deal at $7.32 million to forego a commitment to Vanderbilt after being selected seventh overall. The 18-year-old prep outfielder is a well above-average runner, which gives him a clear path to fantasy relevance down the road. He’s a few hyperspace jumps from the majors at this early stage of his development, but he’s one of the more intriguing long-term projects to watch in his draft class.

Orioles selected Oak Grove HS (MS) OF Eric Booth Jr. with the No. 7 selection of the 2026 MLB Draft.

Booth is the son of Eric Booth, who was one of the better kick returners in the country at Southern Mississippi. The younger Booth inherited his speed from his pops, and could be an 80-grade runner at the highest level. That speed helps him go get it in the outfield, but also should help him beat out some weaker contact. That’s not to say that Booth makes a ton of it; he has the bat speed and path to hit for a high average, and he is starting to tap into power that could be above-average with some mechanical adjustments as he gets stronger. Booth isn’t likely to be a fast-track player, but considering he just turned 18, he doesn’t need to be. He could be a five-category contributor when he’s ready to roll in the latter part of the decade.

Spencer Steer was removed from Sunday’s game against the Cardinals in the fifth inning due to an apparent hand injury.

Steer fouled off a pitch and came away shaking his right hand, which prompted the visit from the training staff and Reds’ manager Terry Franconca and after a brief discussion Steer was lifted from the game mid at-bat. He’ll presumably head for imaging to see what’s going on there. Fantasy managers who are relying on Steer for next week should have a contingency plan in place in the event that he’s forced to miss some time.

Jeffrey Springs was pulled from Sunday’s start against the Twins in the second inning due to an apparent injury.

It’s unclear exactly what occurred, but the left-hander was visited by the training staff during the second inning and the decision was ultimately made to remove him from the ballgame. Springs was charged with five runs (four earned) on four hits and a walk in just 1 1/3 innings of work. He’ll head for further evaluation. Expect the A’s to have an update on his status after the game.

He then took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on a bunt single by Cedric Mullins to give the Rays a 1-0 advantage. That would be the only offense for either side in the contest. With the two-hit attack, the speedy 25-year-old outfielder is now hitting .296/.329/.359 with zero homers, 20 RBI and 26 stolen bases on the season.

Now 9-5 on the season, he’ll look to replicate this brilliant effort as he brings a 3.07 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a 112/19 K/BB ratio (111 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the White Sox.

The lone tally against him came in the fifth inning as Chandler Simpson singled, took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on a bunt single by Cedric Mullins. Unfortunately, that was enough to do him in. Messick generated nine swings and misses on 94 pitches on the day — seven of those on his heater — while posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll bring an impressive 2.59 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 122/36 K/BB ratio (125 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s tilt against the Diamondbacks
