Mookie Betts goes hitless in doubleheader

The good news for Dunn is that it was a career year — he hit .282/.335/.387 with two homers and six stolen bases in 155 plate appearances. The bad news is that we have no idea how long this elbow surgery will keep him out just yet. He’ll get another chance in Cincy’s outfield mix in 2027 if healthy.

They point to the idea that Ohtani already needed a day off after recently getting one on Monday as a “red flag,” but note that it is “unlikely” the Dodgers will put Ohtani on the injured list. Still, this is an injury that sounds like it has a chance to linger and cause further interruptions to Ohtani down the stretch. Fantasy managers should be prepared for that possibility. Manager Dave Roberts has already said he’s “very confident” that Ohtani would start on Friday.

It would certainly seem like a stretch that the Mets will get anything like what they gave up to get Peralta, though perhaps desperation will take the reins at the deadline after some other dominoes fall. Peralta is 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 113 2/3 innings for the Mets this year, but other teams seem to believe they can fix him. The Cubs, Braves, Rays, and Phillies are among the clubs showing strong interest in Peralta per The Athletic reporters.

Tromp has played in 21 MLB games this year between the Braves and Orioles, hitting .163/.160/.184 in 51 plate appearances. The Orioles decided they’d rather trade for Jake Rogers. If Tromp clears waivers, he can elect free agency.

Sands is out for the season after settling on arthroscopic elbow surgery, so this is a procedural move to clear a 40-man roster spot for trade acquisition A.J. Minter.

With the Cubs starting left-hander Shota Imanaga, the Yankees will have Goldschmidt and Amed Rosario in the lineup. Goldschmidt has remained a consistent starter in the lineup of late due to the Yankees’ myriad injuries, but he’s slashing .190/.248/.324 with four home runs, seven RBI, and a 32.7 percent strikeout rate over his last 30 games. The Yankees have also had the worst batting average in baseball since Aaron Judge got hurt. This is a lineup that needs help at the trade deadline.

Kelly was acquired from the Dodgers earlier this summer and has posted a 2.79 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 22/7 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings in the Chicago organization. If he gets into a game with the Cubs, it will be his MLB debut.

The Cubs can’t seem to catch a break with bullpen injuries. Hollowell had posted a 2.51 ERA and one save in 14 1/3 innings for the Cubs. Chicago will surely be looking to add more healthy arms to their bullpen at the trade deadline.

Gelof has been out since July 9th after cutting his knee on the outfield fence while making a sliding catch. He began baseball activities a little over a week ago and is closing in on a return. He will likely need at least a week of games to get his timing back, but he could return to the Athletics’ lineup by the middle of August.

Thorpe struck out five and didn’t walk a batter while allowing one hit. He threw 31 of his 43 pitches for strikes. It’s another promising outing for the 25-year-old, who has not pitched at any level since having Tommy John surgery in April of 2025. He will likely need to make at least two more rehab starts before he becomes an option for the White Sox in any capacity.
