There is a lot to unpack here. Festa is slated to undergo arthroscopic surgery for a shoulder impingement in addition to a procedure in his pectoral area to address thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms. It’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined, but he’s obviously done for the rest of the season. The bigger question is whether he’ll be ready for a normal spring training.

It feels like a precautionary move, but that’s purely speculation at this juncture. The only run allowed was a solo homer from Kyle Stowers, but that’s one more run allowed than Sandy Alcantara and a pair of Miami relievers. That being said, there was a smidgen of good luck that he only gave up the one run, as he gave up five hits and three walks before exiting in the sixth frame. Still, it’s nice to see some effectiveness from what was one of the best hurlers in the league not that long ago. He’ll faced the Nationals on Monday if there’s no change to the rotation order.

The win puts an end to the Marlins’ 12-game losing streak. Alcantara was brilliant; scattering four hits allowed — just one for extra bases — and he struck out five while issuing just one walk. It’s the fourth time in five starts in July that the 30-year-old has been able to go at least seven innings, and it lowers his ERA for the month to a solid 2.57. Overall, Alcantara is now up to 11-6 on the season with a 3.82 mark in 2026, and he’ll look to go deep again Sunday in a scheduled bout against the Mets in New York.
