Astros transferred INF/OF Brice Matthews to the 60-day injured list.

Astros GM Dana Brown said a couple of weeks ago that Matthews could return in mid-to-late August, but something changed there. This rules him out until Sept. 12 with the knee injury he suffered in the final game before the All-Star break.

Brewers activated INF Cooper Pratt from the 10-day injured list.

Pratt missed the minimum 10 days with his hamstring strain. His return will push Joey Ortiz back over to third base to split time with David Hamilton. Jonathan Ornelas sticks around for now, but he’ll probably be dropped once Sal Frelick is activated.

Brewers optioned OF Brandon Lockridge to Triple-A Nashville.

Lockridge has hit .273/.345/.313 in 111 plate appearances for the Brewers this season. His demotion leaves the team shorthanded in the outfield for now, but Sal Frelick is expected back before the end of the week.

Guardians recalled C/OF David Fry from Triple-A Columbus.

Fry hit six homers in his eight games with Columbus, so whether Rhys Hoskins is actually hurt or not, bringing Fry back to the majors seemed like a good idea. Alas, he’s not starting against the left-handed Matt Wilkinson tonight, for some reason.

Athletics activated LHP Jeffrey Springs from the 15-day injured list.

The Athletics’ answer to Springs’ longstanding hip issues was to have him take one start off, pitch once in A-ball and then bring him back to the majors. He’ll face the Royals tonight.
