Justin Martinez came in and stranded two of the three runners. The D-backs surely would have been more patient with Pfaadt under normal circumstances, but they’re all must-win games for Arizona now. Pfaadt is due to finish the regular season in San Diego on Friday.

Schlittler’s own error on a sac bunt led to the two unearned runs in the fifth. He also helped mess up a sac bunt that led to the earned run in the sixth; Gerardo Perdomo’s attempt turned into a soft liner to the third base side of the mound, but Schlittler wasn’t in position to field it and got a little in Ryan McMahon’s way when McMahon went to grab it. That one went as an infield single. In the end, Schlittler’s ERA went down to 1.94. Still, it won’t rank among the Cy Young favorite’s better outings. He’ll face the Orioles in his final start of the regular season. One imagines it will be a shorter-than-usual outing.

Wells has three homers in his last five games, putting him up to .185/.284/.326 for the season. His OPS is back over .600 for the first time since May 9.

Edwards had his left hand checked out after a foul ball. It’s the same area in which he suffered a thumb sprain that had him on the IL for two weeks at the beginning of the month. Edwards finished the at-bat, but Graham Pauley replaced him the following inning.

Lile’s home run was his 22nd of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Michael McGreevy in the first inning. Lile has two home runs and six RBI over his last four games. He’s hitting .249 with a .740 OPS and 88 RBI this year.

McGreevy gave up five hits, walked one and struck out one. He had won two of his last three starts. McGreevy was removed after four innings and 88 pitches. He has a 3.84 ERA this year. McGreevy is lined up to face the Brewers on the road next weekend.

Alvarez gave up five hits, walked one and struck out eight. In his last four starts, he’s gone at least six innings while allowing no runs twice and allowed three runs while failing to complete five innings twice. Alvarez has a 3.17 ERA this year. He’s lined up to face the Mets at home next weekend.
