Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) starts rehab assignment

Devers gave the Giants their first lead in the home half of the first inning as he pummeled a 2-1 fastball from Grayson Rodriguez for a 362-foot (101.8-mph) two-run shot. He then strolled to the dish with the bases loaded in the 10th inning and punched a single into left field to send the Giants’ faithful into a frenzy. His overall slash line on the season has continued to tick up, now up to a respectable .244/.315/.476 to go along with 21 homers and 56 RBI in 438 plate appearances.

Schmitt did his damage in the third inning of this one, tattooing a 1-1 fastball from Grayson Rodriguez for a 412-foot (105.9-mph EV) three-run shot that increased the Giants’ lead to 5-1. That would be his only hit in the contest but played a major role in the victory. For the season, the versatile 27-year-old is slashing .272/.303/.489 with a career-high 21 long balls and 54 RBI in 400 plate appearances.

The Giants’ right-hander did an excellent job here, stranding the extra runner and giving the Giants a prime opportunity to walk it off in the home half of the 10th inning. He’s in the midst of a mediocre season overall for the Giants, posting a 4.57 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 49/18 K/BB ratio over 41 1/3 innings in his 42 appearances. He has also notched three victories and eight saves on the season and still looks like the best option to see save chances in a nightmarish Giants’ bullpen.

Webb struck out four batters on the evening while allowing a pair of free passes. The Angels scratched out a run against him in the opening inning, then broke through for three more in the fifth including a two-run triple by Tyler Heineman. Still, Webb exited the game with a one-run lead and in line for a victory, but the Giants’ bullpen couldn’t hang on for him. The 29-year-old hurler generated 10 whiffs on 99 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 25 percent. Still 5-7 on the season, he’ll tote a 3.98 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and an 89/29 K/BB ratio (113 innings) into Wednesday afternoon’s skirmish against the Brewers.

Grissom pulled the Halos even at six runs apiece with his 381-foot (103.4-mph EV) two-run shot off of Jason Foley in the eighth inning. That would wind up being the extent of their offense in the extra-inning loss. Grissom also singled in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-5. For the season, the 25-year-old infielder is slashing a respectable .255/.319/.401 with six homers and 40 RBI in 239 plate appearances.

Rodriguez also issued a pair of walks in the ballgame while striking out three. All of the damage that he allowed came via the long ball, with Rafael Devers belting a two-run shot in the opening inning and Casey Schmitt adding a three-run blast in the third. The 26-year-old righty got eight swings and misses on 80 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of just 21 percent. He’ll try to improve upon an increasingly miserable 8.54 ERA and 1.79 WHIP when he takes on the Astros at home on Wednesday.

Armstrong was just backing up home plate when a misstep left him what looked like a pretty serious strain. He’ll probably go on the IL on Saturday. Will Dion, who was sent down Friday, could come right back to the majors.

Suárez transformed a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 advantage with his 435-foot (110.5-mph EV) two-run blast off of George Soriano in the seventh inning. That proved to be the difference in the ballgame. With his two-hit attack, the 35-year-old slugger is now slashing .213/.285/.414 with 14 homers and 39 RBI in 291 plate appearances on the season.

De La Cruz singled with one out in the fifth inning and swiped second base, but the Reds were unable to cash him in from there. He also led off the ninth inning with a walk, stole second base, took third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Sal Stewart. On the season, the dynamic 24-year-old shortstop is now slashing .276/.352/.500 with 17 homers, 46 RBI and 18 stolen bases over 372 plate appearances on the season.

The 35-year-old stopper was exceptional in this one, needing just 11 pitches (10 strikes) to retire the Cardinals in order — including strikeouts of Ivan Herrera and Lars Nootbaar. It has been a mixed bag of results in an injury-plagued season for Pagan, who holds a 5.31 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 21/8 K/BB ratio across 20 1/3 innings on the season while converting 10 of his first 13 save chances.
