Corey Seager (back) ramps up running progression

Walker hit a 94-mph sinker a season-high 440 feet for his 25th homer, though just his third since the beginning of August. He was 5-for-34 with no RBI in his previous 10 games.

Wesneski shut out the Phillies until giving up a double to Justin Crawford, an RBI single to Kyle Schwarber and a two-run homer to Trea Turner in consecutive at-bats in the sixth. Fortunately, he had a five-run lead to work with before that happened. He moved to 5-1 with a 3.35 ERA. Barring a change, he’ll make his next start Sunday against the Rays. The Astros, though, might look at pushing him back. His only outing on four days’ rest since returning from elbow surgery was also his worst to date; he gave up five runs in four innings against Seattle in his lone loss on Aug. 15.

Working with a two-run lead, Hader gave up a single and then an RBI double to start the ninth, but he retired J.T. Realmuto, Derek Hill and Kyle Schwarber afterwards to end the game. The run Hader allowed was his first in 22 appearances dating back to July 20. His ERA increased from 0.69 to 0.89.

It’s something of a setback for Painter, but at least he struck out six. He also allowed fewer hard-hit balls (eight) than hits. The loss is Painter’s first in eight starts since rejoining the Phillies’ rotation. He has a 3.77 ERA and a 44/15 K/BB in 45 1/3 innings over the span. He’ll try to bounce back in a tough matchup in Atlanta on Sunday.

Smith took a chance and ran through a stop sign at third base to score his first run on Jeremy Peña’s double. Especially after he was sat down in back-to-back games over the weekend, it was a little surprising to see Smith in the lineup tonight against a righty after he struck out three all three times up on Monday. He’ll be back in there Wednesday against a lefty, though it will be a touch matchup versus Christopher Sánchez.

The homer off Hayden Wesneski’s was Turner’s first in a month, but he does now have five doubles in seven games in September. That can’t be a bad sign.

Soto’s home run was his 24th of the season. He hit a three-run shot off Sandy Alcantara in the second inning. It was Soto’s third home run in 10 games since he returned from the injured list in late August. He’s hitting .279 with a .936 OPS and 59 RBI.

Lindor’s home run was his 17th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Sandy Alcantara in the first inning. Lindor has six runs scored, three home runs and five RBI in seven games so far in September. He’s hitting .230 with a .740 OPS and 39 RBI.

Senga entered the ninth inning with a three-run lead and gave up back-to-back one-out doubles before recording back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. The Marlins brought the tying run to the plate, but it was still another relatively low-stress outing for the fill-in closer Senga, who now has seven saves.

Alcantara gave up seven hits, walked four and struck out one. He fell to 13-10 with the loss. Alcantara allowed at least seven runs in a start three times in his first 12 starts and had a 4.66 ERA in that span. In his next 18 starts before Tuesday, he never allowed more than five runs in a start and had a 2.84 ERA. Alcantara has a 3.78 ERA. Though the outing against the Mets was concerning, Alcantara can be trusted to bounce back in his next start against the Diamondbacks on the road next week.
