The Cubs and White Sox have shown interest in Reid Detmers, according to Russell Dorsey of Yahoo! Sports.

Detmers is going to be a popular name in trade conversations leading up to next week’s trade deadline with the Angels nearly a dozen games out of a playoff spot. Both Chicago franchises could use an injection of life in their starting rotations for the final two months and have the intriguing prospects necessary to facilitate a deal. The 27-year-old southpaw limited the Cardinals to one run over 5 1/3 innings last Wednesday and will face the Astros in his next start on Tuesday. He’s been on a roll lately, allowing just one run with a 13/2 K/BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings since the All-Star break.

The Angels are willing to discuss shortstop Zach Neto in addition to starters Reid Detmers and José Soriano in trade talks, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

The revelation comes as a bit of a surprise as the Angels appear to be more willing to move on from someone like Neto, who was viewed as one of their more long-term building blocks. There are plenty of teams that could use a shortstop, which is probably why Los Angeles interim general manager John Mozeliak is going to entertain overtures. It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent, but the Angels could be headed for more of a full-scale teardown than many anticipated.

Reid Detmers allowed two runs with nine strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday.

Detmers surrendered a solo homer to Yordan Alvarez in the first inning. Christian Walker later added a solo shot in the fourth. Detmers went one more inning for the Angels, giving up just the two runs through five while collecting nine strikeouts. The 27-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.03 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 145/38 K/BB ratio across 125 innings. Barring a trade, he’s lined up to face the Orioles in Baltimore next Tuesday.

Reid Detmers allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Detmers deserved a better fate after limiting the Cardinals to just a solo homer by rookie JJ Wetherholt, which wound up being the difference in a low-scoring affair. He finished with six strikeouts and issued two walks. The 27-year-old southpaw has delivered back-to-back strong performances, allowing just one run with a 13/2 K/BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings since the All-Star break. He’ll square off against the Astros at home in his next outing on Tuesday.

New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports that the Angels are expected to make LHP Reid Detmers and RHP Jose Soriano available at the trade deadline.

Detmers spent last year in the bullpen but has enjoyed a solid return to the rotation, posting a 4.16 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 130/35 K/BB ratio in 114 2/3 innings. There are still some consistency issues, and being able to work with the pitching development program in another organization would probably benefit him. Jose Soriano also started the year on fire, allowing one earned run in his first six starts. In 14 starts since, he has a 5.15 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a 72/40 K/BB ratio in 73 1/3 innings.

Reid Detmers was brilliant during a tough-luck no-decision against the Tigers on Friday, scattering four hits over six innings of shutout baseball.

Detmers punched out seven opposing hitters on the night and didn’t walk a batter — outdueling Tigers’ right-hander Troy Melton who was terrific in his own right on the other side. Two of the four hits against him went for extra bases, but the Tigers never advanced a runner past second base against him. The 27-year-old southpaw got 12 whiffs on 86 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine effort as he carries a 4.16 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 130/35 K/BB ratio (114 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Cardinals.

Reid Detmers will start for the Angels in Friday’s second half opener against the Tigers.

Detmers has been a viable fantasy option for most of the first half of the season despite winning only three games, as he registered a 4.19 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 123/35 K/BB ratio across 108 2/3 innings through his first 19 starts. He’ll be followed in the Angels’ rotation by Grayson Rodriguez and Ryan Johnson in their weekend series against the Tigers. Jose Soriano and Walbert Urena will pitch on Monday and Tuesday respectively against the Cardinals.

Reid Detmers gave up five runs and three homers in four innings Thursday against the Rangers.

Detmers served up homers to Brandon Nimmo in the first, Ezequiel Duran in the third and Justin Foscue in the fourth. All were hit at 104 mph, oddly enough. We’ll feel better about Detmers as a fantasy starter if and when he gets out of Anaheim. He closes out the first half with a 3-6 record and a 4.19 ERA despite an excellent 123/35 K/BB in 108 2/3 innings.

Reid Detmers surrendered five runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Detmers had 17 whiffs tonight but just five strikeouts. He also walked three for the third start in a row. He had that many walks in just three of his first 15 starts this year. He’ll have ample trade value for the Angels with a decent July, but he hasn’t helped by posting a 5.40 ERA in his last three outings. His final start before the break will likely come Thursday in Texas.

Detmers struck out eight. He isn’t a great bet in shallow leagues while continuing to toil for the hapless Angels, but the good news is that it seems quite likely that he’ll be traded to a contender next month. It’s entirely possible that he’ll be a top starter down the stretch if that happens. He’s due to face the Red Sox next weekend.

Luckily for Detmers, his offense came alive with five runs in the final two innings to save him from being saddled with a loss. The left-hander struck out four and walked four while posting a 64 percent strike rate. Detmers was able to convert when he got into two-strike counts, and his slider missed tons of at-bats against a right-heavy lineup; however, he struggled to get into two-strike counts, and the command for his fastball wasn’t great. He’ll square off against the Athletics again at home next week.

May might have peaked in May, but he’s still done quite well in posting a 2.92 ERA with 28 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings in his last five starts. The Brewers don’t ask for lengthy outings from their starters, which should work in May’s favor. His fantasy value should increase a tad with the deal, though there is the risk that the Brewers will occasionally pull him with a lead in the fifth. The Brewers will have to decide whether to go to a six-man rotation for now or to have May replace Robert Gasser.

Signing May to a $12.5 million deal last winter worked out about as well as the Cardinals could have hoped, as they’re flipping him for a couple of very interesting prospects here. The 18-year-old Frias hit a crazy .441/.518/.678 in 32 games in the Complex League this year before moving up to Low-A ball and coming in at .236/.328/.418 in his first 28 games. He has some star potential as a left-handed, power-hitting corner outfielder.

Ragsdale, 22, was a nice find from the seventh round of last year’s draft. He opened 2026 hitting .327/.447/.528 in 60 games in High-A and has kept it going at .292/.429/.698 with 12 homers in 26 games since moving up to Double-A. He’s also 31-for-34 stealing bases on the year. Strikeouts are a problem and he lacks polish defensively, but the talent is there for him to become a starter in center.

The 28-year-old lefty boasts a strong 2.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 45/22 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings this season. His departure obviously leaves San Francisco’s closing situation in flux.
