Heyman: Angels to make Detmers/Soriano available

Rogers struck out six and didn’t walk anyone. Baltimore trailed 7-0 against Tarik Skubal but came back to tie the game and eventually win 10-9 in 12 innings. This was Rogers’ first start allowing more than three earned runs since May 29, as he’s been sensational in June and July. Some poor defense didn’t help, so he’ll look to bounce back at home against the Angels next time out.

The Orioles are up to nine saves in July, three of which belong to Kittredge. Tyler Wells also has three, and he pitched two scoreless innings in Wednesday’s thriller. The other three saves are spread across three different relievers, so this looks like a true committee led by Wells and Kittredge. That makes it difficult to roster either of them in standard mixed leagues, but perhaps more clarity will arrive after Monday’s trade deadline.

Skubal struck out six and walked one, throwing 92 pitches. He nearly escaped with only one run allowed, but Kyle Finnegan let two inherited runners score. Skubal remains the jewel of Monday’s trade deadline, so this very well might’ve been his final start with the Tigers. Detroit led 7-0 before losing 10-9 in 12 innings, dropping to 51-58 on the season. He began the game by striking out Taylor Ward for the 1,000th K of his career. It remains to be seen who he’ll be pitching for in his next appearance.

Holliday ended up with three at-bats despite not starting against Tarik Skubal. He still made his presence felt to continue a hot start to the second half. Holliday has meaningfully lowered his strikeout rate in July, which is notable considering he’s still just 22 years old and got a late start to the season. A high BABIP is partially fueling his heater, and he’s a long way from stardom, but the growth is encouraging.

Torkelson picked up his 500th career hit early in this one, and he later connected for his 100th career homer. The latter was a two-run shot in the eleventh that tied the game at nine, but Baltimore went on to win in 12. Torkelson’s strikeout rate sits at 31.5% through 422 plate appearances in 2026. His 20 homers are nice, but he’s been a batting average drain and doesn’t supply any speed. He’ll need to show more to close out his age-26 season if he’s going to remain an integral part of Detroit’s future.

Semien is back at second base and hitting sixth after sitting out the front-end of Wednesday’s twin bill. The 35-year-old veteran has been on a tear at the dish recently, homering three times in his last five games. The other change for New York involves Luis Robert Jr. taking a turn in center field with rookie sensation A.J. Ewing on the bench.

Hoerner grabs a seat on the bench with red-hot rookie Pedro Ramírez taking a turn at the keystone after connecting for his first round-tripper since April 21 earlier this week. The 29-year-old speedster has been phenomenal since the All-Star break, hitting .417 (20-for-48) across 11 games during that span.

Grisham is back in the leadoff spot to face White Sox righty Davis Martin. The 29-year-old has hit towards the middle of the order recently as the Yankees attempt to cobble things together without both Aaron Judge (rib) and Cody Bellinger (hamstring) for the next couple weeks.

Giants manager Tony Vitello told reporters the procedure will “more than likely” end Schmitt’s season. It’s hardly an unexpected development after the 27-year-old breakout slugger was diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his left knee earlier this week. It would be extremely surprising if he makes it back in any capacity, which means that fantasy managers can safely drop Schmitt in nearly all formats. He finishes an unexpected breakthrough campaign with a strong 271/.301/.483 slash line with a career-high 21 homers, 55 RBI and nine steals in 409 plate appearances.

Luke Keaschall takes over in center field. No surprise after Buxton made an early exit from Tuesday’s game at Target Field with right hip soreness. It’s been a persistent issue for him throughout the last few months and it wouldn’t be surprising if he wound up requiring a trip to the injured list. The Twins are probably going to wait at least a couple days before making that decision since they’re trying to remain in contention for an AL Wild Card playoff spot leading into next week’s trade deadline.
