Bryce Miller has start pushed back to Friday

Miller gave up back-to-back homers to Zack Gelof and Lawrence Butler in the first. He went on to walk five afterwards, but he allowed no other hits and left with a 5-2 lead after five. That should have gotten him his first win since July 2, but then the Mariners pen gave up six runs in an 8-7 loss. Miller’s next outing is slated to take place in Coors Field on Saturday, though he might be piggybacking then if Emerson Hancock is deemed ready to throw a few innings.

The lone challenge for Woo tonight was all of the long waits in between innings. He allowed three hits and struck out five in the 80-pitch outing. Now 12-9 with a 3.88 ERA, he’s due to pitch in Colorado in his next-to-last start of the regular season.

Miller served up a solo homer to Corey Seager in the first inning. He gave up a second run on a walk and a base hit in the second. After a scoreless third, he ran into more trouble in the fourth as he departed with the bases loaded and two outs. Two inherited runners would come in to score. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 4.22 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 101/29 K/BB ratio across 102 1/3 innings into a start against the Athletics in Sacramento on Sunday.

Henry Bolte’s single in the fourth was the lone Athletics hit of the day. Woo completed eight innings for the first time in 97 career starts. He also matched his season high in strikeouts. He fanned 13 against the Angels on Sept. 13, 2025, but he’s never reached 10 otherwise, with this being his 12th time (sixth time this year) finishing with nine. Woo has pitched scoreless ball in three of his last six starts, and he’s now 11-9 with a 4.03 ERA for the year. He’ll face the A’s again next weekend.

Miller struck out three and walked one, lowering his ERA to 4.01. It wasn’t the most efficient effort, but it was a step in the right direction after allowing five earned runs or more in three consecutive starts. Miller was phenomenal in his initial return from injury this season, but he entered Wednesday with a 7.18 ERA in the second half. He was going to be sent to the bullpen recently, but Emerson Hancock’s injury reopened a rotation spot. He’ll draw the Rangers at home next time out.

Woo had great velocity again tonight, averaging 97.1 mph with his fastball and topping out at 98.8 mph. His four highest average fastball velocities of the season have all come in his last four starts, even as the third of those was pushed back by a shoulder issue. The win tonight makes Woo 10-9 with a 4.25 ERA. He has a favorable start at home against the A’s coming up on Sunday.

It’s a temporary move, according to Wilson. Miller went 4-2 with a 1.71 ERA in his first nine starts back from an oblique strain this season, but he’s 0-6 with a 7.19 ERA in his last eight turns and he’s admitted to dealing with a lat issue. Going back to five starters should give the rest of Seattle’s rotation a little extra fantasy value, but the team will still likely give Kade Anderson extra days off when they can.

Woo struck out five and allowed two homers on the afternoon. He served up a two-run shot to Bryce Harper in the first and a three-run blast to Kyle Schwarber in the second. The right-hander was making his first start since August 16 after his weekend outing was skipped due to shoulder soreness. Philadelphia is a tough matchup to return to after a longer-than-usual gap between starts. Woo will look to rebound next time out against the Red Sox at Fenway.

There was plenty of reason to suspect that Woo would wind up requiring a trip to the injured list after experiencing shoulder soreness during his previous outing against the Astros back on August 16. The 26-year-old was able to complete a bullpen session over the weekend without any issues and should be ready to take the ball later this week. Obviously, fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his status in the coming weeks.

Jude mentioned that, “only after much prodding did Bryce Miler acknowledge a lat issue that crept up a month ago in Texas.” A month ago would be before his July 24th start against the Rangers. In the six starts since then, Miller has posted a 7.92 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 15.6 percent strikeout rate in 30 2/3 innings. In his 11 starts prior to that, he had a 2.27 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 29.5 percent strikeout rate in 63 1/3 innings. It would be safe to say the injury impacted his performance a little bit. Since Miller also had questions about the health of his elbow coming into this season, he remains a major injury risk going forward unless there is some surgery on the table for him to help alleviate the concern. He can be dropped in all redraft formats right now.
