Twins acquired RHP Dean Kremer from the Orioles for OF Jhomnardo Reyes.

The Twins definitely needed rotation depth, but Kremer has struggled to a 6.50 ERA in his seven starts this year, and while he’s under control for 2027, he seems like a non-tender candidate right now. Maybe he’ll bounce back — he was typically an average starter or a little better each season from 2022 through 2025 — but he’s never been all that exciting with his middling velocity and strikeout numbers. The Orioles could replace him with Trey Gibson or Cade Povich for now, and they should get Chris Bassitt back sometime in August. Zebby Matthews might be bumped from the Twins’ rotation in order to open up a spot.

Twins optioned RHP Zebby Matthews to Triple-A St. Paul.

Matthews heads back to the minors with veteran Dean Kremer joining Minnesota’s rotation after being acquired from the Orioles in a trade on Friday night. The 26-year-old righty posted a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowed three runs over five innings against the Mariners on Friday night. There’s a chance injuries or ineffectiveness bring him back to the big leagues in a couple weeks, but there simply isn’t a spot for him as the Twins make a legitimate playoff push.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Twins are set to acquire Orioles’ right-hander Dean Kremer.

No word yet on what’s going back to the Orioles in the deal. Kremer finished his Orioles’ tenure on a low note, giving up eight runs over four innings in a miserable effort against the Tigers on Tuesday. That being said, he should help to bring stability to the middle of the Twins’ rotation as they push for a spot in the postseason. Stay tuned.

Dean Kremer was lit up for eight runs in four innings by the Tigers on Tuesday.

Kremer gave up a pair of homers, bringing his total surrendered to 12 in 36 innings this season. He’s allowed 21 runs in 25 innings in his five starts since coming off the injured list, and he’s 1-4 with a 6.50 ERA in seven starts overall. If the Orioles can bring in a starter before the deadline, it’s very obvious that it’s Kremer who is going to be bumped from the rotation.

Dean Kremer surrendered six runs in six innings in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.

Four of the runs came right away in the first. The Orioles never made up that deficit, but at least Kremer was able to settle down and get through six with the team playing two games today. Kremer finished up with five strikeouts and one walk. He allowed eight hits, five of which came in the first. He is 1-2 with a 5.57 ERA in four starts since returning from a quad strain, and he figures to next pitch Monday or Tuesday in Detroit.

Dean Kremer allowed four hits and two runs with three walks and five strikeouts over four innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Friday.

Kremer was inefficient in this short start and struggled to find the zone with any pitch besides his sinker. Something interesting though, he practically threw all five of his pitches the exact same amount: 18 sinkers, 17 splitters, 17 four-seam fastballs, 16 cutters, and 15 curveballs. It made sense to bounce around so evenly too because again, he couldn’t really command any of them. He’ll look to have a better start next time out against the Red Sox in Boston.

Dean Kremer will start for the Orioles on Friday evening against the Astros in Houston.

The 30-year-old right-hander will get the ball for the O’s in their second half opener. Injuries limited him to just four starts in the first half where he posted a 4.09 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 24/4 K/BB ratio over 22 innings of work. Trevor Rogers will follow on Saturday with Kyle Bradish getting the ball in Sunday’s series finale.

Dean Kremer surrendered four runs — all on solo homers — in five innings to take a loss Wednesday against the Cubs.

The last three homers came in a four-batter span in the fifth. Of the four, two actually came on balls that fell just short of being hard-hit; Pete Crow-Armstrong’s first homer left the bat at 94.2 mph, and Michael Conforto’s checked in at 94.5 mph. Those probably weren’t homers a month ago. Kremer is 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA in four starts. Between his two outings in April and his two since coming off the IL on July 1, he’s given up nine homers so far but only 10 earned runs. Unless the baseball starts traveling more like it did in April, he’s not going to be a mixed-league option in the second half.

Dean Kremer picked up the win in his return from the injured list on Wednesday against the White Sox, spinning six innings of one-run ball while striking out four.

Kremer allowed four hits and one walk. He gave up a homer to Sam Antonacci on the second pitch of the game but held Chicago scoreless after that. This was only his third start of the year after a quad injury kept him sidelined since late April. He’s pitched well in the small sample and now has a 20:3 K/BB ratio in 17 innings. His next start lines up at home against the Cubs.

Dean Kremer (quad) will start against the White Sox on Wednesday.

Kremer has been out since late April with a quad injury, so the Orioles will need to make some roster moves before they activate him off the 60-day injured list. Kremer looked good in his last rehab outing, striking out eight over 6 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Norfolk. He may eventually have streaming upside in deeper formats, but we’d leave him on the waiver wire outside of AL-only leagues for now.

The deal is now official. Senzatela heads to Milwaukee as a potential low-leverage relief option for the home stretch. The 31-year-old earns a reprieve from Colorado after spending a decade pitching in Coors Field. He’ll leave behind a strong 3.61 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 46/17 K/BB ratio across 52 1/3 innings over 34 appearances this season. He’s an interesting pickup by the Brewers that could wind up making a difference as a multi-inning weapon.

Keller’s season is officially over and he’s facing a lengthy recovery process after being diagnosed with a serious shoulder ailment. It’s a bit unclear how much time he’s going to miss, but it’ll definitely be a multi-month absence given the nature of the injury. The 30-year-old starter finishes with an underwhelming 5.29 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 89/42 K/BB ratio across 115 2/3 innings over 22 starts.

May might have peaked in May, but he’s still done quite well in posting a 2.92 ERA with 28 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings in his last five starts. The Brewers don’t ask for lengthy outings from their starters, which should work in May’s favor. His fantasy value should increase a tad with the deal, though there is the risk that the Brewers will occasionally pull him with a lead in the fifth. The Brewers will have to decide whether to go to a six-man rotation for now or to have May replace Robert Gasser.

Signing May to a $12.5 million deal last winter worked out about as well as the Cardinals could have hoped, as they’re flipping him for a couple of very interesting prospects here. The 18-year-old Frias hit a crazy .441/.518/.678 in 32 games in the Complex League this year before moving up to Low-A ball and coming in at .236/.328/.418 in his first 28 games. He has some star potential as a left-handed, power-hitting corner outfielder.

Ragsdale, 22, was a nice find from the seventh round of last year’s draft. He opened 2026 hitting .327/.447/.528 in 60 games in High-A and has kept it going at .292/.429/.698 with 12 homers in 26 games since moving up to Double-A. He’s also 31-for-34 stealing bases on the year. Strikeouts are a problem and he lacks polish defensively, but the talent is there for him to become a starter in center.

It’s a tough break for Miller’s immediate fantasy outlook as he’ll be stuck behind Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock in Boston’s high-leverage mix. However, he provides the Red Sox with another reliable late-inning option as they attempt to make a real playoff push following the best month in franchise history. The 28-year-old lefty boasts a strong 2.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 45/22 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings this season. His departure obviously leaves San Francisco’s closing situation in flux.
