Reds acquired INF Juan Brito from the Guardians for cash.

Brito winds up in Cincinnati after being jettisoned from Cleveland’s 40-man roster earlier on Monday. The 24-year-old infielder was a notable prospect just a couple years ago before hitting .177 across 56 plate appearances in the big leagues earlier this year.

The Seattle Mariners called up top pitching prospect Kade Anderson, who is expected to start against the Chicago Cubs this Saturday. Eric Samulski emphasizes why he should be added in all fantasy formats.

Brito peaked as a prospect in 2024 before missing much of last year. He made his major league debut back in April, but he hit .177/.250/.255 in 56 plate appearances then, and he’s come in at a middling .237/.351/.394 with diminished exit velocity numbers in Triple-A this year. He’s still just 24, so some team might take a look at him. It hurts his stock that he’ll be out of options next year.

Brito is down, Travis Bazzana is up. Brito struggled in his 51 at-bats with the Guardians as seen in a .176 average and .505 OPS. The 24-year-old is considered one of the better hitting prospects in Cleveland’s system, and he should get another shot at some point this year.

This is now the second straight game that Hoskins has started on the bench. The veteran is hitting .214/.353/.357 with a 28 percent strikeout rate and just one home run. Hoskins still has an 11 percent barrel rate, but he’s not pulling the ball as often as before. Perhaps he just needs to warm up. Jose Ramirez will DH on Wednesday with Daniel Schneemann at third base and Juan Brito at second base.
  • CLE Shortstop #34
Brito broke the game open with a two-run double off of Trevor Rogers in the fifth inning that extended the Guardians’ lead to 4-0. He struck out in each of his other three plate appearances in the ballgame — including with the bases loaded and zero outs in the eighth. For the season, the 24-year-old infielder is now slashing .184/.244/.263 with zero homers, three RBI and a 12/3 K/BB ratio in his first 40 plate appearances.
  • CLE Shortstop #13
Arias left Monday’s game with the injury and was put on the injured list on Tuesday. The Guardians updated his timeline on Wednesday after further evaluation, and it will be a long absence for the 26-year-old. Juan Brito will continue to start in the middle infield in Arias’ place.
  • CLE Shortstop #74
Brito was called up Tuesday by the Guardians, and he made an immediate impact. The 24-year-old laced a double for his first MLB hit, and he added a single for good measure. The 24-year-old will likely handle second base with Gabriel Arias on the injured list due to a hamstring issue, and he’s worth monitoring in AL-only formats. It’s hard to see mixed-league relevance for now, however.
  • CLE Shortstop #74
Brito was called up earlier in the morning with Gabriel Arias (hamstring) landing on the IL, and he will be right into the starting lineup. He flashed 20-home run power in the minors, but that doesn’t feel sustainable at the MLB level, so he can be avoided in fantasy leagues for now.
  • CLE Shortstop #74
Brito was 11-for-35 (.314) in Triple-A this season with five doubles, five runs scored, and four RBI. Injuries limited him to just 31 minor league games last year, but he hit .256/.365/.443 with 21 home runs and 13 steals in 144 games at Triple-A in 2024. His quality of contact numbers are not great, so we wouldn’t expect much power in the big leagues, and Brito remains more of an AL-only type of fantasy asset. It will be his MLB debut when he gets into a game.
  • CLE Shortstop #74
Brito, 24, had a rough time at the plate during Cactus League play, hitting just .154 (4-for-26) with a homer and six RBI. Stephan was always facing an uphill battle in a crowded bullpen mix for the Guardians, but he should get an opportunity at some point during the 2026 campaign.
  • CLE Center Fielder #35
Brito’s case was pretty obvious, but this is actually a second straight extra option year for Valera. He never used one in 2025, though, since the Guardians non-tendered him and then re-signed him to a minor league contract. He finally made his major league debut in September and performed well enough overall to keep himself in the Guardians’ plans for 2026. However, now there’s no pressure on the team to save room for him on the Opening Day roster. The Guardians will still have Nolan Jones, Jhonkensy Noel, Brayan Rocchio and Gilbert Arias as out-of-options players, which could make it more difficult for C.J. Kayfus, Angel Martínez and maybe Daniel Schneeman to make the team, depending on how the rest of the offseason goes.

Jakob Marsee went 2-for-4 and hit his eighth homer Saturday in the Marlins’ 4-2 defeat of the Nationals.

Marsee has a nice .281/.379/.474 line this month, though that comes with just two RBI (both on solo homers). Still, the big news is that he finally stole his 20th base of the season today. He had been stuck on 19 since July 10, going 0-for-2 on his only attempts of the second half. If Marsee starts running again, he’d have some value in mixed leagues.

Eury Pérez held the Nationals to two runs — one earned — over five innings in a victory Saturday.

Not quite as sharp today as in his previous two starts, which saw him pitch a total of 13 scoreless innings, Pérez allowed three hits, walked three and struck out four. He’s set to face the Nationals again next weekend in D.C.

Calvin Faucher worked a perfect ninth for his second save of the year Saturday against the Nationals.

The Marlins declined to use Pete Fairbanks today after he threw 25 pitches Friday, so Faucher was given his first chance to close since Apr. 29. He’s had a terrific August, pitching 7 2/3 scoreless innings with an 11/1 K/BB ratio. It’s lowered his ERA from 4.63 to 3.98.

Jake Irvin surrendered four runs in six innings Saturday in a loss to the Marlins.

Irvin dropped to 0-4 with a 7.01 ERA in five starts since coming off the injured list. We’ve suggested it for years, but the Nationals really ought to take a late look at Irvin in short relief here. As a starter, he’s almost certainly looking at getting non-tendered this winter.

Derek Hill left Saturday’s game against the Cardinals due to neck stiffness.

Justin Crawford took his place. If Hill needs to go on the IL, the Phillies could call up Colby Thomas, who was acquired from the A’s at the trade deadline.

Jake Bauers hit a two-run homer and walked Saturday in the Brewers’ 4-1 victory over the Braves.

Bauers’ homer off Martín Pérez was his fifth of the year off a left-handed pitcher. He had total eight of those in his six previous big-league seasons. Bauers is batting .273/.384/.506 through 469 plate appearances.

Logan Henderson improved to 8-2 after limiting the Braves to one run over six innings on Saturday.

Henderson struck out four and walked two in his 12th straight outing of at least five innings and no more than three runs allowed. He’ll take on the Rangers next weekend.

Aaron Ashby notched his second save by throwing a scoreless ninth Saturday against the Braves.

With Abner Uribe on the IL, Ashby is now the fallback to Trevor Megill, and it’s gotten him two saves in seven days. Megill rested today after earning saves on both Thursday and Friday. Ashby did get into a little trouble, giving up a pair of singles, but he got Austin Riley to hit into a double play to end the game.

Martín Pérez gave up four runs — one earned — over four innings Saturday in a loss to the Brewers.

Pérez’s own error led to the three unearned runs in the third inning. It’s the second straight outing in which Pérez has allowed four runs after three straight scoreless starts to begin the month, and he’s now 8-8 with a 3.12 ERA. He’s due to pitch at home against the Rockies next weekend, making him a nice streaming option.
