Michael Lorenzen pummeled for seven runs by Rays

Lorenzen held the Giants scoreless through two innings, then gave up a solo homer to Drew Gilbert in the third. Things completely got away from him in the fourth, as he surrendered five more runs and was chased from the inning at 82 pitches. He struck out one. The 34-year-old right-hander will carry a 7.08 ERA, 1.88 WHIP, and an 82/49 K/BB ratio across 115 2/3 innings into a start against the Guardians in Colorado on Friday.

He allowed eight hits, walked three and struck out one in his latest no-decision. Lorenzen went 2-9 in his first 17 starts, but he’s lost just one of the last eight, even though he hasn’t exactly excelled with a 6.25 ERA and a 16/20 K/BB in 36 innings during the span. He’ll face the Giants next weekend.

Lorenzen tossed a scoreless first inning, then gave up two runs on a walk and two hits in the second. He gave the Rockies two more scoreless innings, then departed with two runners on and no outs in the fifth at 93 pitches with two strikeouts. The 34-year-old right-hander will take a 6.54 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, and an 80/40 K/BB ratio across 104 2/3 innings into a start against the Rays in Colorado on Monday.

That would include Kyle Freeland, Michael Lorenzen, and Tomoyuki Sugano. While they may not seem like major additions, they are experienced veteran starters that playoff contenders could look to add as rotation depth for the final months.

Lorenzen surrendered a two-run homer to CJ Abrams in the first inning. Abrams got to Lorenzen again in the third with another two-run blast. James Wood would bring home two more for the Nats with a double in the fourth. That would do it for Lorenzen, leaving with two outs in the inning at 80 pitches. He struck out five. The 34-year-old right-hander will take a 6.53 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, and a 78/39 K/BB ratio across 100 2/3 innings into a start against the Padres in San Diego next Tuesday.

Lorenzen allowed five hits, walked three and struck out just one, but that amounted to only one run for the Giants. Lorenzen departed a tie game, so he remained 3-9 with a 6.22 ERA for the season. He could be part of a deadline deal if anyone is interested in his ability to soak up innings. If not, he’ll probably finish out the year in Colorado’s rotation.

Lorenzen surrendered a leadoff homer to Shohei Ohtani in the first inning. He got through three more scoreless innings before allowing a second run in on a bases-loaded walk in the fifth. The two runs would be all the Dodgers could get across on Lorenzen through five frames. An error and a hit in the sixth brought an unearned run in. Lorenzen’s day would be done at 95 pitches. He struck out five. The 34-year-old right-hander will take a 6.65 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, and a 72/35 K/BB ratio across 92 innings into a start against the Giants in San Francisco on Sunday.

Lorenzen can’t get away with six walks anywhere but certainly not at Coors Field. He has an 8.21 ERA and a 31/22 K/BB in 41 2/3 innings at home this year. On the road, he’s still at 5.68, even though his 36/10 K/BB in 44 1/3 innings is pretty good. Lorenzen will make his next start Tuesday in L.A. against the Dodgers.

Lorenzen gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out none. He improved to 3-9 with the win. Lorenzen allowed a run in the first inning and another in the sixth inning. Even if Lorenzen didn’t have a 6.83 ERA and pitch half of his games at Coors Field, he doesn’t get enough strikeouts to be on the fantasy radar. He’s lined up to face the Marlins at home next weekend.

Lorenzen was coming off two nice showings against the Cubs, but he hasn’t won since Apr. 24 and this latest loss leaves him 2-9 with a 7.11 ERA. He’ll start in Minneapolis next weekend.
