Carson Benge (wrist) is out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Pirates.

No surprise after Benge suffered a left wrist injury on a collision with the left-field wall while making a sliding catch during Friday’s contest. The positive news for the Mets, and fantasy managers, is that initial X-rays came back negative for any fractures, and the Mets are currently calling it a bone bruise. It sounds like he could be back by the middle of next week. It’ll be fellow rookie A.J. Ewing taking over in left field with Luis Robert Jr. patrolling center field and Brett Baty in the opposite corner.

Brett Baty (knee) returned to the Mets’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees.

Baty missed the first two games of the series after exiting Wednesday’s contest with left knee pain. He’s back in there at second base and will bat eighth against Yankees’ ace Cam Schlittler on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Baty remains stapled to New York’s bench for the second straight contest after exiting Wednesday’s game with left knee pain. The 26-year-old former top prospect appears to have avoided serious injury, but it’ll be Jared Young at first base to face Yankees ace Gerrit Cole in this one.

A.J. Ewing went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Friday against the Yankees.

On a heater lately, Ewing chipped in a RBI single in the seventh and solo homer in the ninth as the Mets chipped away at the Yankees lead before falling short in their comeback attempt. He’s now 13-for-27 with two home runs and nine RBI over his last seven games as he looks to end his rookie season on a high note.
Brett Baty

Brett Baty was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Marlins with left knee pain.

Baty appeared to tweak his left knee while coming out of the box on an RBI single in the second inning. He was replaced by Christopher Morel at first base. He’ll undergo further evaluation, and possibly an MRI, to determine the severity of the issue.

A.J. Ewing went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI in a win over the Marlins on Monday.

Ewing had been in a prolonged slump, but he now has a modest four-game hitting streak that has seen him go 7-for-15 with one home run and five RBI. Perhaps the rookie is starting to adjust back to how MLB pitchers are attacking him. The 22-year-old has a solid .247/.319/.365 slash line in his rookie season, which began with him at Double-A.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said he’s hopeful Luis Robert Jr. (hamstring) will be ready to go as soon as his 10 days on the injured list are up.

Albernaz termed the hamstring injury that put Robert on the IL as a low grade strain. The Orioles called it hamstring discomfort in making the move prior to Sunday’s game.

That explains why Robert wasn’t in the Orioles’ lineup on Saturday and Sunday. He’ll be shelved for at least a week and a half while dealing with a hamstring issue. It’s a tough break for the O’s and for fantasy managers as the dynamic 29-year-old outfielder had a chance to make a major impact down the stretch. Rece Hinds was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday to provide depth in the Orioles’ outfield.

Luis Robert Jr. is not in the Orioles’ starting lineup for a second consecutive day on Sunday.

While there haven’t been any rumblings of Robert dealing with any sort of injury, it’s interesting that he’s sitting for a second straight game, especially with a left-hander on the mound for the Red Sox. The Orioles also added another outfielder to their roster in Rece Hinds on Sunday, which could mean that Robert is dealing with a minor issue. Colton Cowser will again start in center field and bat ninth for the O’s on Sunday against Payton Tolle and the Red Sox.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that the team’s plan is “to activate Andy Pages (fractured hand) this homestand without a rehab assignment.”

The Dodgers are home from Friday through next Wednesday, so Pages could be activated at any time during that stretch. The season ends for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, so if Pages is coming back without playing in rehab games, our best guess is that he returns early next week. Considering the 25-year-old fractured his hand on August 21st and will not have any rehab games before returning, it’s going to be tough to trust him in fantasy leagues for the final week of the season.
