Carson Benge (wrist) is out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Pirates.

No surprise after Benge suffered a left wrist injury on a collision with the left-field wall while making a sliding catch during Friday’s contest. The positive news for the Mets, and fantasy managers, is that initial X-rays came back negative for any fractures, and the Mets are currently calling it a bone bruise. It sounds like he could be back by the middle of next week. It’ll be fellow rookie A.J. Ewing taking over in left field with Luis Robert Jr. patrolling center field and Brett Baty in the opposite corner.

Mets interim manager Andy Green told reporters after Friday’s game that X-rays on the injured wrist of Carson Benge came back negative for any fractures.

Mets’ fans and fantasy managers can now breathe a sigh of relief. Benge suffered the injury as he crashed into the outfield wall while making a sliding catch during Thursday’s battle against the Pirates. He’s considered day-to-day and should return to action before the weekend is through.

A.J. Ewing went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base on Friday against the Pirates.

Ewing continues to produce out of the lead-off spot in their order. Along with the three hits, he was hit by a pitch as well and reached base four total times. His stolen base was also his 15th on the season and after a bit of an inefficient start on the base paths, he’s now successfully stolen seven in a row since the last time he was caught on June 29th. Those plus his .266 batting average, seven home runs, and standout defense in center field have made Ewing a very useful player during his rookie season.

Carson Benge was removed from Friday night’s battle against the Pirates due to soreness in his left wrist.

Benge sustained the injury when he crashed into the outfield wall in the left field corner while making a terrific sliding catch in the third inning. Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like anything that’s going to lead to an extended absence. He’s considered day-to-day.

Luis Robert Jr. is not in the Mets’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s showdown against the Pirates.

The Mets are being careful to ease the dynamic 29-year-old outfielder back into a full-time role. giving him ample days off to make sure that he remains fresh. A.J. Ewing will slide over and cover center field on Friday night while Brett Baty starts in right field and will bat seventh against Carmen Mlodzinski and the Pirates.

A.J. Ewing went 0-for-5 from the leadoff spot Sunday against the Marlins.

As the lone Met to bat five times, he flew out with the tying run on to end the 2-0 loss today. While he’s gone 5-for-5 stealing bases, Ewing is hitting .222/.271/.270 with 18 strikeouts in 15 games in the second half. The Mets need to keep playing him, but he might not be their best option in the leadoff spot right now.

Carson Benge went 3-for-4 with a double on Friday against the Marlins.

There haven’t been many silver linings during this catastrophic season for the Mets, but Benge’s strong play as a rookie certainly is one. Three more hits here brought his average up to .266 and that came with a 2-for-33 stretch to begin his career. On top of that, his 11 homers and 17 stolen bases are a nice one-two punch. While he doesn’t have a standout tool, there’s no holes in his game and he looks like a player that should be a five category producer for years to come.

Luis Robert Jr. delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning on Thursday, leading the Mets to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Marlins.

The Mets got a two-out rally started in the eighth as Bo Bichette doubled and Carson Benge followed with a single and a stolen base. Robert then smacked a single into left field that plated both of them, proving to be the difference in the ballgame. He finished the night 1-for-4 and is now slashing a disappointing .202/.300/.333 with four homers, 12 RBI and two stolen bases in his first 130 plate appearances with the Mets.

Carson Benge went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored as the Mets triumphed over the Marlins on Thursday evening in New York.

Benge smacked a two-out single in the eighth inning, swiped second base and scored on Luis Robert’s go-ahead two-run single that proved to be the difference in the contest. The 23-year-old rookie outfielder has been a bright spot in an otherwise bleak season for the Mets, slashing .261/.324/.391 with 11 homers, 41 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

Marcus Semien is in the lineup for the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Braves.

Semien is back at second base and hitting sixth after sitting out the front-end of Wednesday’s twin bill. The 35-year-old veteran has been on a tear at the dish recently, homering three times in his last five games. The other change for New York involves Luis Robert Jr. taking a turn in center field with rookie sensation A.J. Ewing on the bench.

A.J. Ewing went 1-for-2 with a walk, two steals, an RBI, and a run scored as the Mets defeated the Braves in Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Ewing has hit leadoff in all but one game since July 6, starting against all four lefties the Mets have faced in that stretch. The rookie outfielder is now 14-for-20 on the bases this year, but he’s converted six in a row after an inefficient start. Ewing continues to look like a long-term building block for New York and will likely get all the playing time he can handle over the season’s final two months.

Rutschman caught five innings today.

The double was hit 104 mph off Lee Trivino. Worcester ended up beating Lehigh Valley 19-0, so the Rutschman acquisition is already paying off for Boston. It’s unclear if he’ll play again tomorrow.
