Blue Jays designate Willie MacIver for assignment

Aranda went hitless in his first three at-bats before knocking a base hit and scoring a run in the eighth. He then came through in a big spot for the Rays, taking Jacob Latz deep for a three-run blast in the tenth inning to take the lead. It was Aranda’s fifth home run in the second half, four of them coming in his last 11 games. The 28-year-old first baseman is up to 19 with 85 RBI while hitting .278/.361/.429 across 601 plate appearances.

Caminero put the Rays on the board early, taking Jacob deGrom deep for a solo homer in the first inning. He later added a base hit in the eighth. The 23-year-old slugger is hitting .281/.365/.532 with 38 home runs, 87 runs scored, and 91 RBI across 620 plate appearances.

Pederson gave the Rangers their only run through seven innings against Drew Rasmussen, taking him deep for a solo homer in the sixth inning. He was later lifted in the eighth inning for a pinch-hitter against a left-handed reliever. The 34-year-old slugger is up to 25 homers while hitting .235/.328/.485 across 416 plate appearances.

With Bryan Baker unavailable with an illness on Saturday, Wells got the call to pitch the ninth in a tie game against the Rangers. He worked around a fielding error to hold Texas off the board and take the game to extras. After Tampa Bay took a three-run lead, he closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts to fall in line for the win.

Rasmussen was outstanding on Saturday, limiting the Rangers to just one run over seven frames. The one run came on a solo homer by Joc Pederson in the sixth inning. He gave up just two other hits and did not walk a batter while striking out seven. The bullpen would cost him the win in the eighth inning. The 31-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.88 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and a 156/27 K/BB ratio across 153 1/3 innings. Rasmussen will take on the Astros in Tampa Bay on Friday.

deGrom surrendered a solo homer to Junior Caminero in the first inning. After three scoreless innings, Richie Palacios later took him deep for a solo homer in the fifth. The two solo homers would be all deGrom would allow over six innings for a quality start. He struck out seven while getting stuck with a no-decision. The 38-year-old right-hander will take a 3.96 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 174/38 K/BB ratio across 143 1/3 innings into a start against the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Friday.

Perkins was just optioned out on Friday, but he’ll rejoin the A’s with J.T. Ginn (elbow) heading to the injured list. It’s unclear if he’ll replace Ginn in the club’s rotation or work as a long man out of the bullpen for the time being. Either way, he should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

The A’s were hopeful that Ginn would just need to have his start pushed back and that he wouldn’t require a trip to the injured list, but unfortunately they couldn’t wait any longer for him to return. Jack Perkins was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move to take his place on the club’s active roster.

It’s unclear when exactly Caglianone sustained the injury or what the extent of it is, but he was replaced by Nick Loftin in the third inning. Expect him to head for further evaluation and for the Royals to provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available.

Lowe returned to the lineup on Saturday after missing the previous two contests with a neck issue. He looked just fine as he extended the Angels’ lead in the fifth inning with a leadoff home run off Braxton Ashcraft. It was the 11th home run of the season for the 28-year-old outfielder. He’s hitting .210/.273/.360 with 26 runs scored, 28 RBI, and seven steals across 295 plate appearances.
