Nationals manager Blake Butera confirmed that Jackson Kent will be called up to start against the Cubs on Wednesday.

According to multiple reports, Miles Mikolas was saying goodbye to teammates in the clubhouse following Tuesday’s game, which means that he’ll be the corresponding move. Kent has recorded an encouraging 3.72 ERA and 105/30 K/BB ratio across 94 1/3 innings in the upper minors this season. He’ll face a tough test in his major-league debut, which makes it challenging to endorse him as a streaming option for fantasy purposes.

James Schiano assesses the ripple effects of Kyle Stowers' trip to the injured list, including how it impacts the Marlins' infield and fantasy rosters alike.

Twins OF prospect Walker Jenkins went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and two RBI for Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.

Jenkins has been producing consistently since the middle of July, but he’s now 13-for-35 (.371) in August with two home runs, four RBI, five runs scored, and three steals. If the Twins are really making a run at the postseason, they should probably give him a shot in the outfield.

Pirates recalled SS Jack Brannigan from Triple-A Indianapolis

With Endy Rodriguez (hip) headed to the injured list, the Pirates will simply use Rafael Flores Jr. as their backup catcher, so they can call up Brannigan as a reserve infielder. He has hit .217/.324/.447 with 14 home runs in 69 Triple-A games this season.

Pirates optioned RHP Evan Sisk to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Sisk was activated from the injured list a little over a week ago and has allowed a run in each of his last three outings. This may just be a brief reset for the 29-year-old.

Spencer Jones will bat third and play left field against the Mariners on Thursday

Jones has plenty of power, so hitting him in the middle of the lineup makes sense. However, in 17 games since the All-Star break, he’s also hitting .196 with a 25.4 percent strikeout rate, 17.2 percent swinging strike rate, and 68 percent contact rate. The power and solid walk rate have given him a usable .756 OPS, but he remains a risky bet given his contact profile.

Pirates placed C Endy Rodríguez on the 10-day injured list with left hip inflammation.

Sadly, injuries are becoming far too prevalent in Rodríguez’s career. The 26-year-old has produced when healthy for the Pirates this season, but this is now his third stint on the injured list this year, following previous injury-plagued seasons. There is no timeline for his return right now.

Red Sox placed RHP Garrett Whitlock on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation.

Whitlock claims he doesn’t think the injury is serious, but he also said the discomfort had been building for weeks and peaked in the bullpen on Tuesday. That’s not a great sign. This is a huge loss for the Red Sox’s bullpen, as Whitlock had posted a 2.05 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 49/7 K/BB ratio in 44 innings this season.

Nationals 1B/3B prospect Yohandy Morales went 1-for-5 with an RBI for Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Morales had been sidelined for three weeks with an undisclosed injury, but he has gone 7-for-21 with two home runs and four RBI in his five games since returning. The 40th-overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is hitting .297/.374/.544 in 89 Triple-A games this season with 23 home runs, 66 RBI, and five steals. He should get a shot with the Nationals at some point to end the year.
