Gabriel Moreno went 1-for-4 with a solo home run as the Diamondbacks fell to the Braves 5-3 on Sunday.

Moreno’s homer was his ninth of 2026, tying a career high. He’s already set personal bests in runs and RBI, making this a true breakout season, and not just in the rate stats. Among qualified hitters who are primary catchers, he leads in batting average and on-base percentage by a significant margin. It also helps that he’s been a workhorse behind the plate, missing just two games since June 29.

Gabriel Moreno hit a grand slam to account for all of Arizona’s runs in Tuesday’s loss to the Red Sox.

This might not be the Diamondbacks’ year, but at least Moreno is fulfilling his potential in becoming of the game’s best catchers. The 26-year-old is batting .308/.385/.470 with 10 homers and 60 RBI through 98 games. Not to say they’re exactly equivalent offensive threats, but the only player in MLB with a higher average and more homers than Moreno is Yordan Alvarez.

Moreno is back at DH and hitting cleanup on Wednesday against the Padres following a two-game stint away from the club on paternity leave. The 26-year-old backstop has put together a really strong campaign, slashing .298/.380/.438 with eight homers, 47 RBI and four steals in 350 plate appearances.

It feels strange to call him underrated, but Moreno has graded out as a top-10 fantasy catcher so far.

Moreno singled in the top of the eighth inning to bring home Corbin Carroll and put the Diamondbacks up 2-1. Ryan Waldschmidt would also come home to score on the play, but that was due to a fielding error by Angel Martínez. Moreno has enjoyed a red-hot July and ends the month slashing .362/.438/.489 with two homers and 19 RBI.

Gabriel Moreno went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored as the Diamondbacks defeated the Pirates 3-0 on Wednesday.

Moreno connected for a two-run shot off Jared Jones that gave Arizona a lead they wouldn’t surrender. The hot-hitting backstop has started every game since June 29 and leads primary catchers in batting average and OBP (min. 300 PA). A true power ceiling is the only nitpick in his profile, but his performance to date has been a win for fantasy managers.

Moreno put the Diamondbacks on the board with a base hit in the third inning to drive in two of the team’s three runs on the day. He was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. The 26-year-old catcher has been one of the best hitters at the position, slashing .311/.392/.448 with seven homers, 42 runs scored, 49 RBI, and four steals across 316 plate appearances.

Moreno two hits didn’t result in any runs being scored, but in the top of the seventh inning, his sacrifice fly to bring in Ketel Marte put the Diamondbacks up 3-2, which would end up being the final score. Moreno’s two-hit night pushed his hitting streak to five-straight games, and he is now slashing a blistering .394/.464/.493 in July with a week left to go in the month.

Moreno has bettered his excellent .901 OPS in June with a .960 mark so far this month. At 262 plate appearances, he’s short of qualifying for the batting title. However, his .309 average ranks sixth among all major leaguers with at least 200 plate appearances.

Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the Phillies are signing Nestor Cortes (arm) to a one-year deal.

Cortes will get an MLB deal, which makes sense considering the deal will be prorated and there’s not much season left. The southpaw has not pitched since 2025 after undergoing surgery in the middle of October that year. While he has a starting background, there isn’t much time for to build into that role. A muti-inning option out of the bullpen for the remainder of 2026.

Polanco was placed on the injured list before Wednesday’s game against the Padres with ankle bursitis. The 33-year-old has had a disastrous first season with the Mets that has seen him deal with injuries and ineffectiveness when available. If he does undergo the operation, it will all but assuredly mean he’s played his last game in 2026. That may be true, either way.
