Jhoan Duran picks up 28th save

Duran gave up a run in the ninth inning, the fourth run allowed by the Phillies’ bullpen on the night, but was still able to close out the Marlins to preserve a 6-5 victory. It was his 27th save of the year. It’s the third time Duran has saved at least 27 games in his career and he’s just three saves away from back-to-back seasons with at least 30 saves.

Duran struck out three while allowing one hit and one walk. He has simply been dominant and is on pace to set a career high in saves despite missing time with an injury earlier this year. Duran came over at last summer’s trade deadline, and he hadn’t been used as a full-time closer until joining the Phillies. He totaled 32 saves between Minnesota and Philadelphia in 2025, and he’s since taken his game to another level. Mason Miller is the only qualified reliever with a higher K-BB percent this season.

Duran struck out two and didn’t allow a baserunner in securing his 25th save of the season. He remains one of the most consistent closers in baseball.

Duran entered the ninth inning with a 7-5 lead and recorded only one out. Two singles and a hit batter quickly loaded the bases with no outs. A Heriberto Hernández two-run single tied the game and three batters later Griffin Conine hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded and one out. It’s only Duran’s second blow save of the season. He has a 2.04 ERA.

Duran’s save was his 24th of the season. He retired the side in order in the ninth inning without the Tigers hitting the ball out of the infield. Duran has a 1.38 ERA heading into the All-Star break as one of the top closers in all of baseball.

Duran gave up a single and hit a batter before striking out Eugenio Suárez and Tyler Stephenson and getting Noelvi Marte to ground out to the end the game. It’s his 23rd save in 24 tries this year.

Duran did give up a hit, but he struck out three, so it’s up to you and you alone to determine whether he struck out the side or not. What can’t be debated is how well Duran has pitched in his first full season as the Philadelphia closer. He’s up to 22 saves on the season, and the scoreless outing lowers his ERA to 1.47 on the campaign. There have not been many better in 2026 than Duran has.

Brett Baty was able to work his third walk of the game with two outs, but Luis Torrens then lined out to right to end the game. Duran is tied for second in the majors with his 21 saves in 22 chances. The walk today was just his sixth to go along with 44 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings.

Sometimes, Duran takes the mound and it’s difficult to believe anyone has ever gotten a hit off him. Francisco Lindor accomplished that near impossible feat on an odd fair ball called foul, which kept him at first base. It didn’t matter anyway because no one else got close to breaking through. He now has 20 saves, a 1.63 ERA, and 0.94 WHIP just past the midway point of the season.

Duran needed just 16 pitches (11 strikes) to notch his first save since June 13. The hard-throwing 28-year-old has allowed just four runs with a 35/5 K/BB ratio over 20 innings since returning from the injured list back in early May.
