He spent the minimum 15 days on the list, great news for the Marlins. King will return to the late game mix and, given how Pete Fairbanks has fared this year, we could see a situation where King gets some save opportunities this year if the Marlins start mixing and matching.

Marlins placed LHP John King on the 15-day injured list with a left lateral ankle sprain.

It’s a tough loss for the Marlins bullpen, as King was 5-2 with a 2.48 ERA in 40 innings thus far this year. There’s no word on how serious this injury is at this time, but the 15-day placement suggests he’ll be out at least until closer to the trade deadline.

John King took the loss in Sunday’s 10-1 defeat to the Mets, pitching 1 2/3 innings while allowing two earned runs.

King started Sunday’s bullpen game after Janson Junk was scratched and placed on the injured list with a shin issue. Junk joins Eury Pérez and Robby Snelling as recent rotation losses for a staff that is suddenly extremely thin. King might be used as an opener on bullpen days going forward, but he’ll otherwise revert to middle relief.

Marlins signed LHP John King to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

King was non-tendered by the Cardinals in November after posting a 4.66 ERA last year. The sinkerballer had come in at 3.47 over the previous four seasons, and the Marlins are making a small bet that he’ll get back into that territory. If it works out, he’ll probably be flipped for a prospect in July.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Marlins and LHP John King have agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

King had a down 2025, allowing a 4.66 ERA and eight homers in just 51 games pitched. He’ll look to rebound with the Marlins and should have a decent shot of making the Opening Day roster based on this contract.

Cardinals non-tendered LHP John King and RHP Jorge Alcala.

Alcala had already been DFA’d earlier this week. King had a 3.33 ERA in 128 innings out of the pen since being acquired from the Rangers in 2023, but he was up to 4.66 last season, mostly because he allowed eight homers in spite of his usual 60% groundball rate. Dropping him will save the Cardinals about $2 million, but he’d still seem to be worth at least that much with his double play ability.

The 30-year-old southpaw missed just over two weeks due to a mid-back strain. He returns to an underwhelming 5.18 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and a 24/13 K/BB ratio over 41 2/3 innings through his first 43 appearances with the Cardinals this season. Nick Raquet was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move on Friday.

King was just activated off the injured list Sunday after recovering from his oblique strain. The 30-year-old’s season could be over, but he’ll be eligible to return to St. Louis in the middle of September.

Brandon Williamson blanked the Braves for six innings in the Reds’ 4-0 victory Tuesday.

Williamson, who had been piggybacking off Chase Burns, excelled tonight in his second major league start since April. throwing just 68 pitches to get 18 outs. He seemed iffy a month ago to stick on Cincinnati’s 40-man this winter, but with his velocity climbing some as he completes his first year back from Tommy John, he’s probably locked up a spot now.

Brock Burke touched 99.6 mph on the gun while pitching a scoreless seventh and picking up his 22nd hold Tuesday against the Braves.

In a rare miss for Tampa Bay, the Rays could have had Burke from the Angels for Josh Lowe last winter but instead decided to do a three-team deal that netted them Gavin Lux from Cincinnati. Lux has been absent all year, while Burke has posted a 2.33 ERA in 73 1/3 innings. He’s surely looking at a nice multiyear deal in free agency this winter.

The run came on an Elly De La Cruz homer. Ritchie fell to 1-4 with a 4.79 ERA. He’s probably not in the Braves’ plans for next week’s Wild Card series, so he could make a traditional start against the Marlins on Sunday.

Just the tiniest bit of plate discipline could turn him into a real star.

Genao, though, saw it all right away and won a footrace to first.
