Mason Adams effective for four in MLB debut

It’s an ultra-rare Adams-for-Adams (no relation) swap on Colorado’s active roster. The 26-year-old came over from the White Sox in the Brenton Doyle trade earlier this month. He’ll get the start for Tuesday’s game against the Nationals and is not a recommended fantasy option.

Adams is a 26-year-old who missed the entire 2025 season due to Tommy John surgery. He’s pitched to a 4.25 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 36/17 K/B ratio in 36 innings at Triple-A this year. He does have a six-pitch mix with a solid sweeper, so there is some potential here for the Rockies to work with.

Adams was sidelined earlier this month with a flexor strain in his right elbow, but wound up having to undergo a full reconstructive surgery. Given the timing of the procedure, he’s going to miss a significant portion of the 2026 season.

A former 13th round pick of the White Sox in 2022, Adams had a 2.70 ERA in 18 appearances at Double-A in 2024. He struggled with a 5.82 ERA in five starts at Triple-A, where he was set to open this season. The 25-year-old right-hander is now without a timetable to return after the ominous diagnosis of a flexor strain in his right elbow. It wouldn’t be surprising if Adams eventually needed surgery. While Adams wasn’t looking at cracking the White Sox’ Opening Day rotation, this is a blow to the organization’s overall pitching depth.

The 25-year-old hurler struck out one batter on the afternoon and didn’t allow a base on balls. The only damage done against him came in the second inning on a two-out RBI single by Gabriel Arias after Jhonkensy Noel had advanced on a wild pitch. Adams generated three swings and misses in the ballgame while posting a CSW of 20 percent. He’s expected to open the season in the rotation at Triple-A Charlotte.
