Chris Bassitt gives up three runs in loss to Red Sox

Madrigal heads to Tampa Bay as an emergency stopgap with shortstop Taylor Walls hitting the injured list with a hip flexor strain. The 29-year-old defensive specialist got into 15 games for the Angels earlier this season, hitting .273 (12-for-44) with one stolen base. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Walls expressed optimism while speaking to reporters that it’ll be a minimum stay on the injured list. The 30-year-old defensive specialist’s absence creates some issues for the AL East-leading Rays heading towards postseason as they’ll turn to journeyman Jorge Mateo as a temporary stopgap. They have former top prospect Carson Williams stationed at Triple-A Durham, but he simply hasn’t shown enough at the plate in the majors to be a realistic option.

Bigge winds up losing his spot on Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster with the club needing to free up a spot for veteran infielder Nick Madrigal. The 28-year-old righty posted an inflated 6.98 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 14/14 K/BB ratio across 19 1/3 innings in the majors earlier this season.

Weiss added that Elder will require a 3-4 week recovery timetable and could potentially return during the playoffs. The 27-year-old was expected to be bumped from Atlanta’s rotation with Reynaldo López returning from the injured list later this week. He’ll finish the regular season with a respectable 4.11 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 121/49 K/BB ratio across 149 innings over 26 starts. He’ll factor into Atlanta’s pitching plans at some point in the postseason, but he can be safely dropped in all fantasy formats.

Jung has made a slower than expected recovery from a calf strain that put him on the shelf back in late July. The 28-year-old would add some much-needed offensive production at the hot corner if he’s able to make it back for the final two weeks of the season. He offers enough in the over-the-fence pop and batting average departments to be impactful in deeper mixed leagues down the home stretch.

The Brewers are prioritizing some extra rest for Bauers as he continues to play through shin splits, in addition to other assorted bumps and bruises. The decision makes sense with lefty David Peterson toeing the rubber for Chicago in this one. It’ll be Andrew Vaughn covering the cold corner and getting a chance to do some damage in his place.

Burnes takes the ball against the Royals for his first start since June 1, 2025. The 31-year-old’s likely midseason return from last year’s Tommy John surgery was delayed by a teres major muscle strain. The 31-year-old former fantasy ace is probably going to be on a pitch count in his return to the majors, but he threw 53 pitches in his final minor league rehab outing, so it shouldn’t be overly restrictive. It’s challenging to trust Burnes right away in shallow mixed leagues, but his lengthy track record suggests that he’s a worthwhile option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Strowd provides Arizona with a fresh bullpen arm heading into the final two games of their current series against Kansas City. He’ll presumably see action in long relief following Corbin Burnes on Tuesday night.
