Anthony Santander (shoulder) back in action at Triple-A

De Los Santos gave up two runs in two innings last night and has allowed six earned runs in four innings this week, raising his ERA to 4.79. The Astros will hope that a week off makes him better able to contribute in the postseason.

VanWey will rejoin the bullpen. He was last up in June and has allowed one earned run in six innings for Houston this year.

Aranda continues to end the season with a strong month, hitting his fifth homer in September with a solo blast off Brayan Bello in the fourth inning. The 28-year-old slugger is up to 22 homers and 92 RBI while slashing .277/.360/.440 across 648 plate appearances.

Baker took the mound in the top of the ninth with the game tied 1-1. He worked around a double, with the runner caught stealing second, then stranded a second batter after Jarren Duran tripled. Baker would be in line for the win after the Rays walked it off in the bottom of the frame.

Peralta held the Red Sox scoreless through two innings before giving up a run on a pair of doubles in the third. He went on to pitch into the sixth without giving up another run, leaving with one runner on and two outs at 97 pitches. He struck out six. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 4.56 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 152/60 K/BB ratio across 163 2/3 innings into a start against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.

Bello had allowed two baserunners through three scoreless innings before giving up a solo homer to Jonathan Aranda to lead off the bottom of the fourth. He bounced back with four more scoreless frames, giving the Red Sox eight innings of one-run ball in what was his best outing of the season. The 27-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.49 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and a 90/35 K/BB ratio across 112 1/3 innings. Saturday’s effort might have earned him another start before the end of the season as the team tries to keep its rotation fresh for the postseason.

Ohtani, who is sidelined with biceps and knee issues, resumed hitting earlier this week. He’s eligible to come off the IL on Wednesday, though Friday might be a more realistic return date.

Sánchez got the start behind the dish on Saturday and drove in the only run of the game on a groundout in the second inning. He later led off the eighth with a single and was lifted for a pinch-runner. The 33-year-old backstop is hitting .209/.352/.419 with 11 homers and 36 RBI across 264 plate appearances.

With Trevor Megill unavailable after pitching in three of the last four games, Ashby got the call to close out Saturday’s contest against the Orioles with a one-run lead. He made quick work of Baltimore, striking out one in a clean frame for his third save of the season.

Gasser was excellent on Saturday, holding the Orioles scoreless through six innings. He cruised through most of the game, limiting Baltimore to three baserunners through five frames. His biggest challenge came in the sixth as he loaded the bases with one out before inducing a ground-ball double play. Gasser returned to complete a scoreless seventh inning. He struck out two. The 27-year-old left-hander will take a 4.01 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 94/34 K/BB ratio across 103 1/3 innings into a start against the Cardinals in Milwaukee on Friday.
