Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Anthony Santander (shoulder) is targeting an August return.

Schnieder believes Santander needs “a normal spring training almost” to get ready after a left shoulder labral tear that required surgery. He’s going to start swinging a bat in the next week or so. This is positive news and aligns with the lower end of the 5-6 month timeline the Blue Jays laid out once the surgery happened in late March.

Rays signed INF Nick Madrigal to a minor league contract.

Madrigal elected free agency from the Angels on Thursday rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake. The 29-year-old infielder hit .273 (12-for-44) with no homers, two RBI, one stolen base and a 7/3 K/BB ratio over 52 plate appearances during his time with the Angels.

Orioles claimed RHP Yosver Zulueta off of waivers from the Cubs; optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

The 28-year-old hurler was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Thursday as they freed up a spot on their active roster for the addition of David Peterson. Zulueta has made 24 appearances at the Triple-A level this season, posting an uninspiring 7.54 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and a 24/20 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings. He’ll function as extra bullpen depth for the Orioles.

Ty France (wrist) remains out of the Padres’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s contest against the Dodgers.

France left Friday’s game with a left wrist contusion that he sustained when he was hit by a pitch. He’s still considered day-to-day and it isn’t anything that’s expected to require a trip to the injured list. Gavin Sheets will once again cover first base in his absence while Miguel Andujar serves as the Padres’ designated hitter and will bat seventh against Dodgers’ right-hander Emmet Sheehan.

Bryce Eldridge is not in the Giants’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the Braves.

If you’re going to have to take a day off on occasion, doing so against Chris Sale isn’t the worst idea in the world. Heliot Ramos will function as the Giants’ designated hitter in his place on Sunday while Victor Bericoto draws a start in right field and will bat eighth for the Giants.

Jorge Soler is not in the Angels’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Athletics.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of maintenance for the 34-year-old slugger. Nolan Schanuel will function as the team’s designated hitter in his place while Vaughn Grissom will start at first base and bat fifth for the Halos against Athletics’ right-hander Aaron Civale.

Nick Kurtz is absent from the Athletics’ starting lineup for Sunday’s matchup against the Angels.

The A’s will get their superstar first baseman a breather with left-hander Sam Aldegheri on the slab for the Angels. Expect him to make an appearance off the bench should a key late-game situation arise. Joey Meneses will start in his place at first base and will bat second for the A’s on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Jacob Wilson (shoulder) remains out of the Athletics’ starting lineup for Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Angels in Los Angeles.

It’s the fourth consecutive game that Wilson has missed due to a left shoulder injury, though he is improving and is once again expected to be available off the bench on Sunday. Ailka Williams will once again start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth against Angels’ left-hander Sam Aldegheri.

Tyler Soderstrom (hip) was held out of the Athletics’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s skirmish against the Angels.

Soderstrom was pulled from Saturday’s game due to tightness in his hip and the Athletics will give him an extra day off to rest to make sure that it doesn’t get any worse. Colby Thomas will start in his place in left field and bat fifth for the A’s against Angels’ left-hander Sam Aldegheri on Sunday.

Rockies activated OF Jordan Beck from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Beck had already been stationed at Triple-A Albuquerque for the past week while on a minor league rehab assignment, and now he’ll stay there in an everyday role as he continues to try to regain his 2025 form. Beck has hit just .183/.227/.305 with one home run, 10 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 88 plate appearances with the Rockies this season.

Giants designated INF Buddy Kennedy for assignment.

With Heliot Ramos (quad) returning from the injured list on Sunday, someone needed to get the boot from the Giants’ bench to make room and Kennedy wound up being the odd man out. He went hitless in seven at-bats during his time with the Giants. There’s a decent chance he slides through waivers unclaimed and continues to function as extra depth for the Giants at the Triple-A level.
