Blade Tidwell hits IL with ‘high-grade’ UCL sprain

Giants placed RHP Blade Tidwell on the 15-day injured list with a UCL sprain.

It’s potentially another significant hit to San Francisco’s long-term pitching depth as Tidwell told reporters that initial imaging revealed a high-grade UCL sprain. He’ll undergo further evaluation and receive additional medical opinions to determine whether he’ll require elbow surgery. There’s a strong possibility he winds up missing a significant portion, if not all, of next season, if he ends up needing Tommy John surgery. There should be a definitive update on his status in the coming weeks.

Blade Tidwell picked up his first win of the season after allowing two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings versus the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Tidwell’s velocity was down some tonight and he allowed eight hard-hit balls while also throwing first-pitch strikes to just nine of 25 batters. Still, he was quite effective anyway, and the win gives him a 1-2 record and a 4.56 ERA through eight starts and seven relief appearances. He’s lined up to face the Twins on Monday.

Blade Tidwell received a no-decision on Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over four innings pitched.

Tidwell struck out two in the 78-pitch outing, raising his ERA to 4.82. The 25-year-old righty began the season in the Giants’ bullpen, but he has now made seven starts since the trade deadline. He was acquired from the Mets last summer as part of the return for Tyler Rogers. Tidwell will remain an unexciting fantasy option in his next start, a rematch against the Cardinals.

Blade Tidwell went five innings and allowed two runs while walking five in a loss to the Pirates.

Tidwell allowed two runs in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk and a bases-loaded hit by pitch. He remained walk-prone, but allowed just two hits and held the Pirates to six hard-hit balls, the most dangerous of which was a Bryan Reynolds’ warning-track flyout. Over his last seven appearances (six starts) Tidwell has thrown 32 2/3 innings with a 5.23 ERA. He’s in line to take on the Cardinals next week but is not a recommended start.

Blade Tidwell allowed six runs over five innings while taking a loss against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Tidwell couldn’t keep the ball in the park, and allowed three homers in the contest, including a leadoff roundtripper from Lars Nootbaar. The right-hander was coming off 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his previous outing against the Red Sox, but Friday was an unfortunate example of what can happen when Tidwell doesn’t have his best command. He’ll try to rebound next week against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Blade Tidwell tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Tidwell was outstanding on Saturday, keeping the Red Sox off the board as he pitched into the sixth. He scattered only three hits and two walks while collecting a career-high seven strikeouts. The bullpen would waste Tidwell’s strong performance, giving up three runs to blow the lead in the ninth. The 25-year-old right-hander will take a 3.58 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 27/12 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings into a start against the Diamondbacks in San Francisco on Friday.

Blade Tidwell was charged for six runs over 4 1/3 innings but didn’t factor into the decision against the Rockies on Sunday.

Tidwell, 25, allowed only three hits, but he walked five and only whiffed a single hitter in an ugly outing for the right-hander. He had walked just four hitters in his previous four appearances, so this appears to just be a one-off of bad control for Tidwell. He’ll get a chance to rebound in Boston next weekend.

Blade Tidwell pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball against the Astros on Monday.

Tidwell generated 16 whiffs and struck out six, so that’s pretty good. He was probably fortunate to allow only three singles and a double, considering that he gave up nine hard-hit balls. Yordan Alvarez actually hit three balls in excess of 109 mph against him. Still, he made it work. Tidwell has allowed three runs in 10 2/3 innings in his two starts for the Giants. He could be of use in NL-only leagues going forward, and he’s a streaming option in shallower formats with a home start against the Rockies on deck.

Tidwell surrendered a pair of runs in the first inning on a walk and three hits. He then settled in nicely, giving the Giants four more scoreless innings, scattering three more hits the rest of the way while striking out three batters. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 3.18 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 13/4 K/BB ratio across 17 innings. He’ll take on the Astros in San Francisco next Monday.

Pages had a sac fly that accounted for the Dodgers’ only run over the first nine innings. He had a chance to break the game open with two on in the eighth, but he instead grounded into an inning-ending double play. He got another chance in the 10th after an Alex Call double gave the Dodgers the lead and essentially put the game away with his 23rd homer of the year. It was his second in six games since he returned from a fractured hand. He ends up at .274/.343/.468 with 85 RBI in 134 games.

The right-hander showed he’s still a strong option, and be it for Miami or a new club, there will be fantasy-relevance, even if he doesn’t miss bats with the best of them.

Ritchie’s final start of the season saw him allow seven hits and walks, and he struck out just two. The right-hander went 1-5 on the year with a 4.91 ERA, but there were positives moments for the 23-year-old, and assuming there aren’t drastic changes, there’s a decent chance he’ll be a rotation option for Atlanta in 2027. He’s more dynasty play than redraft next year, but the stuff is good enough that it could lead to a breakout next summer.

The Astros will host the White Sox in the Wild Card. Walker has been pretty bad for five months, but he did come through really nicely in the end, homering in four of his final six games. He ends up with a .226/.299/.427 line, 29 homers and 87 RBI. Three years in a row now, he’s finished with 26-29 homers, 84-88 RBI and 72-73 runs scored.

After debuting in August, he wound up 2-0 with a 3.93 ERA and a 23/14 K/BB over 34 1/3 innings in his five starts and three relief appearances for the Astros.
