Orioles general manager Mike Elias said that Kyle Bradish will undergo sports hernia surgery on Tuesday.

Bradish dealt with the injury over his final three starts of the season and was placed on the injured list on September 13th. The recovery from this surgery is usually a couple of months long, so he should be able to have a relatively normal offseason and build up to the necessary arm strength by spring training.

Nothing has changed in the prognosis for Bradish, who has been shelved since mid-September due to a sports hernia injury. This was merely done as a procedural move to clear a spot on the Orioles’ 40-man roster for the return of Albert Suarez on Thursday.

Albernaz added that Bradish is reviewing his potential options. He’s most likely going to require surgery, which will impact his offseason throwing program. The 30-year-old hit the injured list with abdominal discomfort over the weekend. He’s obviously done for the remainder of the season and can be safely dropped in all fantasy formats.

The issue cropped up for Bradish during Saturday’s start against the Blue Jays. With only a couple of weeks left in the season, it seems likely that this will end his 2026 campaign prematurely. Yaramil Hiraldo was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to add a fresh arm to the Orioles’ bullpen on Sunday.

It’s probably time for the Orioles to shut down Bradish, who is up to 155 innings in his first full season back from Tommy John. This is the third time in four starts that he’s failed to complete five innings, and he’s allowed 33 runs — 27 earned — in 41 2/3 innings while going 0-5 in his last nine starts. He’s due to make his next start Friday against the Brewers, but we’ll have to wait and see if that happens.

The runs came in the second on a walk, a Gunnar Henderson error and then a homer from Eli White. Bradish allowed just one other hit, but he walked four in all. With the Orioles losing six straight and close to being out of contention, it’s possible Bradish will be shut down for the last week or two of the season. He’s at 152 innings this year after coming in at 39 and 54 the previous two seasons, which were interrupted by Tommy John surgery. As things stand now, he’s slated to face the Blue Jays next weekend.

After a scoreless first inning in Colorado, Bradish gave up a solo homer to Adael Amador in the second. A triple and a base hit plated one more run for the Rockies before Bradish could get to the third inning. He gave the Orioles three more scoreless frames before ending his day after five at 95 pitches. He struck out four. The 29-year-old right-hander will take a 4.01 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a 137/64 K/BB ratio across 148 innings into a start against the Red Sox in Baltimore on Sunday.

Cade Povich will start Monday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field with Bradish taking the ball on Tuesday instead. There doesn’t appear to be a physical issue at play here, but the Orioles want to give him some extra rest. The 29-year-old is coming off a disastrous outing against the Cardinals last week where he was torched for seven runs over 4 1/3 innings. It’s challenging to trust Bradish in Coors Field, especially in shallow mixed leagues. There’s a chance his next outing against the Red Sox this weekend could also get pushed back, eliminating a two-start week in the process. There are superior alternatives on the waivers wire in most shallow mixed leagues.

Bradish allowed only a Nolan Gorman solo homer through four before giving up two singles, two walks and two doubles in the fifth. None of the hits were particularly impressive — the two that were hard-hit were both grounders — but those free passes really hurt. It’s the first time this season Bradish has allowed more than five runs, and his ERA crept back over 4.00 for the first time since mid-June. He’s still a reasonable bet in mixed leagues for now, but some late-season fatigue is possible in his first full year back from Tommy John.

The 29-year-old righty punched out five batters in the contest while issuing a pair of free passes. The Yankees struck for three runs (two of them unearned) in the third inning, then Bradish served up solo homers to Luis Garcia Jr. and Spencer Jones before exiting in the sixth inning. Bradish got 10 whiffs on 100 pitches on the night, posting an uninspiring CSW of 25 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries a 3.70 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 129/60 K/BB ratio (138 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Bradish, who finished with only three strikeouts and four whiffs on 35 swings, left in line for the win, but a one-run lead was blown in the ninth, keeping him 7-11 with a 3.65 ERA. His next start will come against Yankees. He’s faced them twice this season, turning in one of his best outings (one hit in six scoreless innings) and one of his worst (five runs in four innings). It probably doesn’t mean much, especially since both of those came in May with Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger healthy.

Phillies’ manager Don Mattingly confirmed that closer Jhoan Duran is expected to be available for Game 3 of the Wild Card Series against the Braves.

Duran was brought into Game 1 in the seventh inning, allowing three runs over two innings and throwing 27 pitches in a losing effort. He was then held out of action in Game 2 due to soreness after the extended outing in Game 1. If the Phillies have a lead to protect late in the game on Thursday, expect Duran to get the call.

Edmundo Sosa (groin) returned to the Phillies’ starting lineup for Game 3 of the Wild Card Series against the Braves on Thursday.

Here’s the full lineup that the Phillies will use against Braves’ opener Ray Kerr to start Thursday’s game: Trea Turner (SS), Kyle Schwarber (DH), Bryce Harper (RF), Alec Bohm (1B), Bryson Stott (2B), Bryan De La Cruz (LF), Edmundo Sosa (3B), J.T. Cardinals acquired RHP Brian Curley from the Diamondbacks.

Curley serves as the player to be named later to complete the deal from August 3 that sent Lars Nootbaar to the Diamondbacks. While the results weren’t great, the 23-year-old hurler did some nice things during his first professional season, posting a 5.28 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and a 130/34 K/BB ratio over 116 innings in 25 appearances (23 starts) between High-A Hillsboro and Double-A Amarillo. He’s likely to open the 2027 season at Double-A Springfield where he’ll function as extra rotation depth for the Cardinals.

Cornielle made one appearance for the Yankees during the final weekend of the season. He’ll become a minor league free agent.

Torey Lovullo is getting a new two-year deal to stay on as Arizona’s manager, the Arizona Republic’s Nick Piecoro reports.

Some thought the Diamondbacks would move on from Lovullo if they didn’t make the postseason, but he’s staying on a new deal that will expire alongside GM Mike Hazen’s following the 2028 season. Lovullo is 750-768 in 10 years at the helm for the D-backs. His teams have reached the postseason twice, losing to the Dodgers in the NLDS in his first year in 2017 and falling to the Rangers in the World Series in 2023.

Colin Holderman, who was out for most of September with wrist inflammation, said he intends to undergo surgery and will miss the postseason.

Holderman said the wrist has been an issue for him for four years. He was quite good this season anyway, posting a 2.73 ERA in 54 appearances before going down. He’s due about $2.5 million in arbitration, which could make him a trade candidate.

The Guardians will go with Parker Messick in Game 1 and Gavin Williams in Game 2 against the White Sox.

The team concluded the season with Williams pitching Saturday and Messick going Sunday, but the order will be reversed now. Vogt didn’t announce anything beyond Game 2. It’s the AL teams with an extra day off between Games 1 and 2 this year, so they’ll only need three starters and Messick would be able to come back and start Game 4 on four days’ rest.
