Freddy Peralta allowed one run over 4 2/3 innings against the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Peralta was gone from the contest by the time Tampa Bay erupted for four runs in the fifth inning. He did his job early on, limiting New York to just a solo homer by Ben Rice. He struck out three and only issued one walk. The 30-year-old has looked completely rejuvenated over the last couple weeks, posting a microscopic 0.79 ERA across 34 innings during his final six regular-season outings. He’ll be ready to take the ball if the Yankees somehow manage to get the best-of-five series to a winner-take-all contest.

Peralta was one of the most effective starters in baseball during the closing month of the regular season where he posted a 0.96 ERA and 23/9 K/BB ratio across five starts in the month of September. The 30-year-old former Brewers ace will be making his seventh career postseason start and 10th appearance overall since 2018.

Peralta’s Tampa Bay resurgence concluded nicely, at least for the regular season, with another strong outing here. The first five innings were a breeze with five scattered base runners, but he ran into trouble during his third time around the Phillies’ order in the sixth with consecutive base hits to start the frame. At that point, he was pulled and reliever Cam Booser escaped the jam without letting either inherited runner score. Peralta’s fastball continues to gain velocity and it averaged a shade over 96 mph in this start, nearly two ticks above his season average. That pitch also had an extra inch of induced vertical break and he’s entering the postseason without allowing more than one earned run in six straight starts.

Peralta held the Red Sox scoreless through two innings before giving up a run on a pair of doubles in the third. He went on to pitch into the sixth without giving up another run, leaving with one runner on and two outs at 97 pitches. He struck out six. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 4.56 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 152/60 K/BB ratio across 163 2/3 innings into a start against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.

Peralta was outstanding on Sunday, holding the Astros scoreless through five no-hit innings. He stranded three walks and collected four strikeouts. Peralta had no pressure in this one as he got 11 runs of support before departing at 86 pitches. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 4.67 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and a 146/58 K/BB ratio across 158 innings into a start against the Red Sox in Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Peralta gave up five hits, walked one and struck out two. He improved to 8-11 with the win. Peralta has now won his last three starts in a row while allowing only two runs in 18 innings. He’s lined up to face the Astros at home on Sunday.

Peralta gave up three hits, walked none and struck out seven. He improved to 7-11 on the season with the win. Peralta allowed a solo home run in the first inning before settling in and putting up a quality start. He has a 4.62 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings over six starts since coming to the Rays at the trade deadline. Peralta has a 4.96 ERA this year. He’s lined up to face the Braves on the road next week.

Peralta allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out four. He posted a 62 percent strike rate with a 30 percent CSW and a 12 percent swinging strike rate on the day. This was easily his best performance as a member of the Rays, and the first time he’s allowed no runs in a start since June 25th. Actually, it’s only the third time he’s allowed no runs in a start all season. As we expected, the Rays continue to have Peralta lean on his changeup more, even to righties, and he had a 31 percent swinging strike rate on the pitch on Tuesday. To righties, he located the pitch far better in the zone, but he focused on chases outside of the zone against lefties. He’ll look to keep it going with a revenge game of sorts against the Mets on Wednesday; although, it’s unclear who would want revenge on whom.

Peralta got off to a bit of a rough start in this one. After allowing back-to-back hits to lead off the inning, one of which was an RBI single by Pete Alonso to score Jackson Holliday from second, he then walked Gunnar Henderson to put runners on first and second with no outs. He was fortunate enough to get out of the inning thanks to a double play ball by Samuel Basallo, but in the top of the second inning he would surrender a leadoff homer to Dylan Beavers to cut the Rays’ lead to 3-2. Peralta wouldn’t allow a run over the next two innings, but a sacrifice fly by Jackson Holliday in the fifth inning followed by a two-run homer by Pete Alonso put the O’s back on top 5-3. Peralta wouldn’t allow another run over his last two innings of work, but the Orioles got the best of him after managing just two runs against him when they faced off last week. Peralta’s next start is set for Wednesday on the road against the Tigers.

Peralta also walked three batters in the contest while recording a pair of strikeouts. He hadn’t allowed a run when he was pulled with two men on and two outs in the fifth inning, only to watch Garrett Cleavinger come on to allow a pair of hits and both of those runners to score. Peralta got 13 whiffs on 76 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll look to improve upon his disappointing 5.27 ERA and 1.48 WHIP when he squares off against these same Orioles in Baltimore on Friday.

Peralta gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. It was a solid rebound start after he allowed seven runs to the Rockies at Coors Field in his Rays debut. The Rays haven’t totally fixed Peralta quite yet, but this was certainly a step in the right direction. Peralta is lined up to face the Orioles at home on Sunday.

Richie Palacios hit a two-run single to lift the Rays to a 5-2 win over the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Palacios gave Tampa Bay a commanding four-run advantage by smacking a two-run single to center field off Yankees reliever Brent Headrick with two outs in the fifth inning. The Rays used a contact-oriented approach to neutralize New York’s ace Cam Schlittler, holding him to just a pair of strikeouts, before ultimately chasing him from the contest in the fifth. With the victory, Tampa Bay takes a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series and has a chance to punch their ticket to the ALCS during Game 3 at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

Ben Rice clobbered two solo homers as the Yankees fell to the Rays in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Rice was one of the few bright spots as New York committed a whopping four errors to fall into an 0-2 hole in the best-of-five series. The 27-year-old slugging first baseman took Rays starter Freddy Peralta deep in the early stages of the contest before tattooing an eighth-inning blast off lefty reliever Ian Seymour. It was his second multi-homer performance in four games this postseason. The Yankees will attempt to stave off elimination when the series resumes with Game 3 in New York on Wednesday.

Bryan Baker fired a perfect ninth inning to pick up a save against the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Baker got the call with Tampa Bay holding a three-run advantage entering the final frame. He got Spencer Jones and George Lombard Jr. to ground out harmlessly before coaxing a game-ending ground ball from Jazz Chisholm Jr. The 31-year-old All-Star stopper has closed out both Rays’ victories to open the best-of-five series.

Cam Schlittler was charged with four runs — two earned — over 4 1/3 innings against the Rays in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Schlittler didn’t get much help from New York’s defense, which committed a staggering three errors in the opening frame alone and allowed an unearned run to cross the plate. The Yankees committed four errors overall, which led to half of the runs against him being unearned. The Rays also became the first team to truly get to the Yankees’ rising superstar, chasing him from the contest in the fifth inning while limiting him to a season-low two strikeouts. The 25-year-old ace, who is a virtual lock to take home the American League Cy Young Award in a few weeks, would be in line to start a potential winner-take-all Game 5 if New York can somehow extend the series that far.

Braden Montgomery delivered a go-ahead two-run double to propel the White Sox to a 4-3 win over the Guardians in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Montgomery put Chicago ahead for good by slicing an opposite-field double down the right-field line against Cleveland reliever Erik Sabrowski in the sixth inning. It was his lone hit in four at-bats, but it came at an opportune moment in the low-scoring affair at Progressive Field. The 23-year-old former first-round pick is just 3-for-15 to open the postseason. With the victory, the White Sox have a chance to punch their ticket to the ALCS when they host the Guardians for Game 3 at Rate Field on Wednesday night.

José Ramírez went 0-for-3 in a Game 2 loss to the White Sox on Monday.

Ramírez, who did manage to walk and score a run in this one, has gone 0-for-6 with three strikeouts during the first two contests of the best-of-five series. The Guardians have mustered just three runs on seven hits combined during that span. They’ll attempt to stave off elimination when the series shifts to Chicago for Game 3 on Wednesday evening.

Grant Taylor recorded a four-out save in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Guardians on Monday.

After tossing four shutout frames to close out Game 1 over the weekend, Taylor was summoned to protect a two-run lead with two outs in the eighth inning after Sean Burke gave up a two-out single to Chase DeLauter. He immediately surrendered an RBI triple to Jo Adell, but managed to retire Nathaniel Lowe to keep the lead intact heading to the ninth. He needed just five pitches to set down Angel Martínez, Travis Bazzana and Patrick Bailey in the final frame to give Chicago a commanding 2-0 advantage in the best-of-five series. The hard-throwing 24-year-old reliever has yet to allow a run while striking out 11 batters over seven innings of work this postseason. He’s arguably been the difference in the series through two games. Unreal.

Sean Burke was charged with one run over 5 1/3 innings to pick up a win in relief against the Guardians in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Burke took over after Anthony Kay and Sean Newcomb allowed two runs and recorded seven outs to open the contest and didn’t allow a hit until Chase DeLauter singled with two outs in the eighth inning. The 26-year-old righty, who was arguably Chicago’s best starter during the regular season, has allowed four runs with a 14/1 K/BB ratio across 9 1/3 innings of work in a pair of postseason outings.

Gavin Williams recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed two runs over five innings against the White Sox in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.

Williams led the majors with 11 double-digit strikeout performances during the regular season and became the first Cleveland starter to accomplish the feat in a playoff setting since Bartolo Colon back in 2001. His 11 punchouts were one shy of the franchise record set by Charles Nagy back in 1996. He piled up 22 swinging strikes on 98 pitches, allowing just seven baserunners over five impressive frames. He looked like he was going to get in trouble when White Sox rookie sensation Munetaka Murakami smacked an RBI single in the fourth inning. However, he managed to get out of the frame without any further damage. He was charged with an additional run when Cleveland’s bullpen allowed an inherited runner to cross the plate in the sixth. He figures to get the ball for a decisive Game 5 matchup, if the series gets to that point.
