Tyler Zuber will have offseason elbow surgery

The issue isn’t believed to be major and as of now there are no plans for the 31-year-old hurler to go under the knife. Zuber made 44 appearances out of the Marlins’ bullpen this season, registering a 5.67 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 42/11 K/BB ratio across 39 2/3 innings of work.

Zuber came in to relieve Peter Fairbanks, who did everything in his power to blow this game. After walking the lead-off batter in a three-run game, chaos ensued with another walk, a bunt hit, and a wild pitch. Eventually, a Yandy Díaz single cut the lead and the third walk of the inning put the tying run in scoring position with Junior Caminero heading to the plate. Enter Zuber who went right at him and eventually struck him out with a fastball at the letters. Zuber may not be the guy to get the next save opportunity for the Marlins, but Fairbanks’ grip on the role seems to be slipping away.

Zuber had posted a 5.20 ERA and 43/16 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season. He had posted two saves but should provide some length out of the bullpen in the short-term. Griffin Conine (hamstring) was moved to the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Gibson’s demotion comes as a bit of a surprise, as the 27-year-old southpaw posted a strong 3.38 ERA over 34 2/3 innings out of the team’s bullpen during the 2025 campaign. His demotion opens a spot in the team’s Opening Day bullpen for Andrew Nardi to make his triumphant return after missing the entire 2025 season.

Before missing the final month with a lat strain, Zuber had an 11.70 ERA in nine appearances for the Marlins last season. The former Royals prospect has a career 6.26 ERA in 64 2/3 innings, all of them as a reliever. He might have an outside chance of claiming a bullpen spot next spring.

All players will have the ability to enter free agency, if they so choose. Bellozo has been an up-and-down option for Miami over the past couple of years, and likely will have interest on the market as a depth piece if he doesn’t stay with Miami.

Zuber was put on the IL with a lat strain Saturday after giving up seven runs on Friday. He’s out for the season, and he’ll probably be made a free agent in October.

Zuber is likely done for the rest of the season given the nature of the injury with just four weeks left. The 30-year-old righty posted an underwhelming 11.70 ERA across 10 innings (nine appearances).

Zuber returns to the big leagues prior to Saturday’s doubleheader against Atlanta with setup man Anthony Bender away on paternity leave. The 30-year-old righty made one relief appearance for the Mets earlier this season before being claimed off waivers a couple weeks ago.

Zuber was then optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville. The 30-year-old was designated for assignment Saturday, and will have a chance to help the Marlins’ bullpen at some point tis summer.
