Franklin Gutierrez was diagnosed Wednesday evening with a partially torn right pectoral muscle.
Gutierrez suffered the injury while making a throw Tuesday in Mariners camp and flew to Seattle on Wednesday morning for a full examination from team physicians. He’ll be sidelined for the next four weeks, and is certain to open the regular season on the 15-day disabled list. The 29-year-old could even be out until late May. Michael Saunders and Casper Wells are likely to share time in center field in his absence.

Royals recalled RHP Eli Morgan from Triple-A Omaha.
Morgan pitched three scoreless innings for a bullpen-saving save in his Royals debut on Saturday. He’ll return to give the pen a fresh arm through the weekend.
Fantasy fallout from Lopez, Soler suspensions
James Schiano examines the fantasy implications of suspensions handed out to Reynaldo Lopez and Jorge Soler, weighing in on how they impact Braves pitchers and the Angels' outfield.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #33
Mets sent LHP A.J. Minter (lat) on a rehab assignment to Single-A St. Lucie.
The comeback begins for the 32-year-old left-hander. Minter was widely expected to be available in late April or early May, and beginning this assignment now seems to align well with that timetable. Once back he’ll push Brooks Raley for No. 1 lefty duties in New York’s pen.
  • CIN 3rd Baseman #27
Sal Stewart homered for the second straight day against the Marlins on Thursday.
He took a Max Meyer fastball out almost to dead center, it landed 409 feet away when it was all said and done. Stewart, hitting .364/.473/.727 with four homers and three steals in his first 44 plate appearances, looks like one of the biggest fantasy steals by ADP so far. Just 22, he might be a linchpin for fantasy mangers going forward and has definitely forced his way into the high-end keeper discussion.
  • MIA Right Fielder #17
Owen Caissie went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and two doubles against the Reds on Thursday.
Caissie’s 2-RBI double in the fourth-inning was just over the glove of T.J. Friedl in left field, plating two. He added an RBI single in the seventh. Caissie has stabilized in the No. 6 spot against right-handed starters. The platoon role keeps him from being a must-start in fantasy leagues, but he’s looked more than able through his first few weeks in Miami, hitting .324/.385/.618 through his first 34 plate appearances.
  • MIA 2nd Baseman #8
Javier Sanoja went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI as the Marlins hammered the Reds 8-1 on Thursday.
Sanoja struck out with the bases loaded in the seventh inning, keeping him from having a true monster game. Oh well. The 23-year-old gold glover is now hitting .406/.424/.500 while playing most of the positions in the outfield and infield. It’s early and there’s been just one steal here, but if Sanjoa can keep his average somewhere in this area code, he can have a Luis Arraez-esque fantasy role.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #25
Rhett Lowder pitched into the sixth inning against the Marlins, allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out just two.
Things could have been different if a couple of Reds outfielders had been able to finish off plays, including Dane Myers outright dropping Xavier Edwards’ triple in the first inning, but Lowder was giving up plenty of loud contact. He allowed 10 hard-hit balls and got zero whiffs on his 15 sinkers that Marlins batters swung at. Lowder figures to take on the Giants in his next start, so he remains on the streaming radar despite his lack of strikeouts.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #23
Max Meyer pitched five innings in a win against the Reds, allowing one run on four hits on Thursday.
Meyer was able to work out of a few jams with runners on despite the elevated walk rate, and allowed just three hard-hit balls. He hasn’t quite put it all together in the way that we saw in early 2025 yet, but a 3.68 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched over his first three starts is certainly stream-worthy at the very least. Seven of his nine whiffs came against the slider. His next start figures to come against the Braves.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #30
Tyler Phillips worked three scoreless innings for a save in Miami’s 8-1 win over the Reds.
He’s not a threat to Pete Fairbanks’ closer role, this was a bullpen-saving save. Still, Phillips has been impressive so far for the Marlins. He touched 98 on the gun and hasn’t been scored on yet in 5.2 innings, striking out six. If Fairbanks is traded or spends time on the IL, Phillips would be in the discussion to replace him.
  • AZ Right Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll is not in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Mets.
It will be Jorge Barrosa in right field and batting ninth for the Diamondbacks as they get their superstar a rest day on Thursday. Gabriel Moreno is also sitting this one out for Arizona, leaving Adrian Del Castillo and Jose Fernandez as the 4-5 hitters against Nolan McLean.
  • NYM Catcher #4
Francisco Alvarez is DHing and batting sixth against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
It’s the first DH appearance for Alvarez this year, both telling of how good he’s been at the plate (.300/.400/.633 in 37 plate appearances so far) and how bereft of depth the Mets are without Juan Soto. Jorge Polanco will get the day off.
