Yuniesky Betancourt (ankle) will be shut down for 10 days.

Betancourt was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a high ankle sprain and will likely need to miss more than the minimum. The 30-year-old infielder is batting .280/.333/.420 with one home run and three RBI in 54 plate appearances this season. Chris Getz figures to get most of the playing time at second base during his absence, but Irving Falu was added to the active roster Thursday.

Zack Gelof

ATH 3rd Baseman #20

Zack Gelof went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer as the A’s topped the Rockies 7-5 on Saturday.

Gelof started in right field tonight with Max Muncy back, but he finished up at third base. He’s hit a solid .271/.316/.475 in 195 plate appearances since being recalled by the A’s, but he might lose some playing time against right-handers while the A’s figure things out in their infield. It shouldn’t turn into a significant issue until Brent Rooker comes off the IL.

Joey Estes gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Rockies in his 2026 debut Saturday.

Estes got the start tonight in his first appearance since being recalled Tuesday and managed to sort of outpitch Kyle Freeland in what turned into a win for the A’s. Estes didn’t qualify for the win, of course, so he’s still 7-12 with a 5.59 ERA as a major leaguer. With Aaron Civale expected back on Wednesday, Estes might be in line to return to Triple-A.

Elvis Alvarado

ATH Relief Pitcher #37

Elvis Alvarado fanned two in a perfect ninth for a save in a two-run game Saturday against the Rockies.

Alvarado struck out Kyle Karros and Brett Sullivan before getting Sterlin Thompson to ground out to end the game. He’s earned both of his saves in the eight days since the A’s recalled him from Triple-A. He should remain in the mix going forward, but Hogan Harris, who notched a save Friday, still seems like the best bet in the A’s pen for now.

Kyle Freeland

COL Starting Pitcher #21

Kyle Freeland surrendered six runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the A’s.

Freeland dropped to 1-7 with a 7.98 ERA. He’s given up 84 hits in 58 2/3 innings. Still, it’s not like the Rockies are going to stop running him out there. Expect him to face the Pirates at Coors Field on Friday.

Alika Williams

ATH Shortstop #25

Alika Williams went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk Saturday against the Rockies.

Williams did have a hard-hit ball tonight, with one of his doubles leaving his bat at 95.1 mph. Combined, the three hits had an xBA of .730. But, hey, as every former player in a broadcast booth says at least twice per game, if you put the ball into play, sometimes good things will happen. Williams, who was acquired from the Pirates last month, is hitting .288/.316/.472 in 39 plate appearances for the A’s. He’ll probably be mostly limited to facing lefties with Jacob Wilson is back.

Denzer Guzman

LAA Shortstop #23

Denzer Gusman finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a steal in the Angels’ 8-0 shutout of the Rays on Saturday.

Guzman’s steal was his first in 17 games as a major leaguer. He’s 4-for-18 in four games since being called up Monday with Yoán Moncada, Vaughn Grissom and Adam Frazier on the IL. He’ll probably wind up back in Triple-A at some point, but he’ll continue to start most of the time until the Angels get healthier.

José Soriano

LAA Starting Pitcher #59

José Soriano departed after five scoreless innings and 76 pitches Saturday in a win over the Rays.

Soriano was hit by a comebacker in the first, which might have had something to do with the quick hook. But if he’s fine, this is a nice, positive outing for him. Soriano had a 5.53 ERA with 20 walks in 27 2/3 innings over his previous five starts. He still has a 2.79 ERA overall, but with only a road start in Sacramento on the docket, he seems like a mediocre play in mixed leagues next week.

Griffin Jax

TB Starting Pitcher #22

Griffin Jax took a tough loss after allowing only an unearned run over five innings Saturday against the Angels.

Jax struck out five and walked none before departing after only 63 pitches. The bullpen then gave up seven runs over the following two innings. At some point, the Rays need to treat Jax as if he’s more than just a placeholder. He’s yet to throw more than five innings in a start, even though he’s been incredibly efficient. He has a 2.57 ERA in his nine starts, but he’s yet to win a game with all of the quick hooks; he hasn’t been allowed to work into the sixth in any of his turns.

Jo Adell

LAA Right Fielder #7

Jo Adell went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored versus the Rays on Saturday.

Just six days after recording his second career four-hit game (and first since 2022), Adell now has a third. He also scored three runs for the fifth time in his career. Batting cleanup most of the time now with Jorge Soler out, Adell seems like a better bet in fantasy leagues than he appeared to be a few weeks ago.

Seiya Suzuki

CHC Right Fielder #27
Seiya Suzuki left Saturday’s game in the fourth inning with right knee discomfort.

Suzuki already missed the first two weeks of the season with a PCL sprain in the same knee. Matt Shaw replaced him tonight and would join Michael Conforto in line for additional playing time if Suzuki needs to go back on the IL.
