Giants optioned RHP Jean Machi to Triple-A Fresno.
A 10-year minor league veteran, Machi was a longshot to make the Giants’ Opening Day bullpen. He posted a 3.60 ERA in 10 appearances this spring.

Rece Hinds had a two-run double in the 10th as the Reds topped the Twins 7-4 on Sunday.
The Reds already had the lead before Hinds’ liner into the left field corner, but they definitely wanted the insurance, even if they didn’t end up needing it. Though they’ve faced nothing but right-handers, Hinds, who has typically played more versus lefties in the past, has started five of six games since being called up to replace Noelvi Marte on the Reds. He’s hitting just .118/.158/.176 with seven strikeouts in 19 plate appearances, but he might get hot for a spell if the Reds stick with him.
Baldwin scorching to start the season for Atlanta
James Schiano discusses Drake Baldwin's hot start to the season and the metrics that show why he may challenge Cal Raleigh for the best hitting catcher.

Brady Singer recorded a quality start Sunday, yielding three runs in six innings against the Twins.
Singer allowed five hits, walked four and struck out two before leaving down 3-1, so it was a particularly weak quality start. Still, the Reds came back and won in 10 innings. Singer has a 5.32 ERA and a 16/7 K/BB in 23 2/3 innings over five starts. With his velocity down some from last year and his strikeout rate standing at 14.5 percent, he seems like a weak bet right now. He’ll face the Tigers next.

Emilio Pagán took a blown save but wound up with a win after allowing a run in the ninth Sunday against the Twins.
Pagán surrendered doubles to James Outman and Austin Martin in the ninth before preserving the tie. It’s his second blown save, but it doesn’t seem like a big problem with the Reds winning in 10 innings anyway. That said, Tony Santillan, who got a save with Pagán resting Saturday, looks like the better reliever right now.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #23
Graham Ashcraft pitched a hitless 10th against the Twins for his first career save.
Ashcraft has opened his second year as a reliever with a 1.50 ERA through 12 innings. He has a chance to be the Reds’ best reliever going forward, but he’s still behind both Emilio Pagán and Tony Santillan on the saves depth chart right now.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #17
Bailey Ober struck out 10 while allowing just an unearned run over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Sunday.
Pretty impressive for a guy who maxed out at 90.4 mph. Ober got 14 whiffs and had a 35 percent CSW in the 102-pitch outing. He walked four, but that didn’t hurt much since he gave up only three hits. We wouldn’t go anywhere near Ober in mixed leagues, given that his stuff is worse now than when he gave up 30 homers last season. Still, he’s made it work through five starts, going 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA and two homers allowed in 26 innings. He’ll face the Rays next weekend.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #78
After working a scoreless eighth, Andrew Morris gave up three runs in the ninth to take a blown save Sunday against the Reds.
The Twins wanted Morris to close in just his second big-league appearance after being called up eight days ago. He pitched around a leadoff walk in the eighth, retiring the heart of the Reds order afterwards. In the ninth, though, he allowed two singles, a walk and a three-run double while getting just one out. Morris was only working the ninth today because Cole Sands and Justin Topa were unavailable after working two days in a row. He probably won’t see additional save chances in the near future.
  • CIN Center Fielder #29
TJ Friedl went 2-for-5 with a three-run double in the ninth as the Reds back to beat the Twins on Sunday.
He also stole a base. The go-ahead double with the Twins down 3-1 against Andrew Morris was Friedl’s first extra-base hit in 92 plate appearances this season and quadrupled his RBI total from one to four. He hadn’t had a three-RBI game since Sept. 2024.
  • MIN Right Fielder #9
Trevor Larnach singled and walked three times before being lifted against a left-hander Sunday against the Reds.
Larnach, arguably the Twins’ best hitter at .265/.468/.412 this season, was up with runners on first and third with two outs in the fourth today, only to lose his at-bat on an ill-fated double-steal that saw Brooks Lee get easily retired on the throw back home by Elly De La Cruz. That might have been pretty big in what ended up being an extra-inning loss.
  • SEA Shortstop #3
J.P. Crawford hit a two-run homer in a win for the Mariners on Sunday over the Rangers.
Crawford hit a rare left-on-left homer off MacKenzie Gore to score Mitch Garver and extend Seattle’s lead to 3-0. The 31-year-old showed some power potential back in 2024, but his .340 on-base percentage — while on the lower side — is fairly representative of what type of hitter Crawford is. He did also draw a walk, and his .383 on-base percentage is indicative of his skill set, as well.
  • SEA Right Fielder #30
Robert Refsnyder hit a solo homer to lead off the game in a win for the Mariners over the Rangers on Sunday.
Dad strength. Refsnyder’s first hit as a Seattle Mariner comes shortly after returning off paternity leave, and it was a leadoff blast off MacKenzie Gore. The 35-year-old is still hitting just .045/.180/.182, but his history of destroying left-handed pitching makes it hard to be too concerned after just a three-week sample.
