Moreland was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a right hamstring strain. Rangers manager Ron Washington is hopeful that he’ll be back as soon as he’s eligible, but it all depends on how he responds to increased activity. Chris McGuiness is expected to get the majority of starts at first base during his absence while Jeff Baker and Lance Berkman could see at-bats there against southpaws.

Myers gave up four hits, walked three and struck out one. He fell to 0-2 with a 5.71 ERA. Myers was put in a tough spot as he was recalled from Triple-A once Christian Scott (hip) was placed on the IL. Predictably, a road matchup against the Reds on short notice went poorly. Myers was already out of the game when Eugenio Suarez hit the grand slam to make it 9-0 with seven of the runs being Myers’ responsibility. He’s lined up to face the Phillies on the road this weekend, but Myers isn’t a recommended fantasy option at this point.

Burns gave up four hits, walked three and struck out seven. He improved to 8-1 with the win. Burns had five of his strikeouts in the first two innings and then took the mound in the third inning with a 9-0 lead. He lowered his ERA to 2.01. Burns will face the Yankees on the road on Sunday in his next start.

Crooks got the start behind the plate in this one and put St. Louis ahead for good with a fourth-inning double into the left-center field gap. It wound up being more than enough run support for Cardinals starter Dustin May, who went the distance for his first career shutout.

May retired 18 consecutive batters before issuing a leadoff walk to Fernando Tatis Jr. to open the seventh inning, ending his perfect-game bid. He lost the no-hitter two batters later when Manny Machado sliced a one-out single into left field. He managed to complete eight innings on just 93 pitches and got the nod to return for the final frame, managing to set down Sung-Mun Song, Rodolfo Durán and Fernando Tatis Jr. on eight pitches to complete the shutout. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in four consecutive starts since May 27, lowering his ERA from 4.57 to 3.75 in the process. He’ll wrap up a two-start week with a home tilt against the Royals on Sunday.

Giolito turned in a respectable performance after opener Wandy Peralta tossed a scoreless opening frame, holding St. Louis to just three runs into the late stages of the contest. Unfortunately, he was outdueled by his Cardinals counterpart Dustin May, who tossed a complete-game shutout. He finished with two strikeouts and issued three walks. He’s struggled to work deep into starts and has had difficulty throwing strikes during his Padres debut, but he holds a respectable 4.56 ERA across 25 2/3 innings. He’ll get the ball in a road matchup against the Rangers on Sunday to close out a two-start week.

It’s a significant relief for the Phillies that Turner didn’t suffer any fractures based on initial imaging when he was hit by a pitch during Monday’s series opener against the Marlins. The 32-year-old has been struggling at the dish of late, but his absence would’ve created some problems for Philadelphia, especially from a defensive standpoint. He’s presumably day-to-day heading into the final two games of the series against Miami.

Garcia’s two-run single in the fifth inning put the Nationals ahead for good. The 26-year-old infielder is now hitting .272 with six home runs and 23 RBI over his last 19 games. Garcia had a career-high 70 RBI in 2024, but he’s on pace to cruise past that number this year with 45 RBI in 67 games so far.

Crews’ home run was his fourth of the year. He hit a three-run shot off Mason Black in the fifth inning. It’s Crews’ second home run in the last four games, but he’s still hitting just .195 with a .595 OPS since being recalled in the middle of May. He’s not worth rostering in most fantasy leagues at this point.

Spence gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out one. Spence is nothing if not consistent as the 28-year-old right-hander has appeared in two games for the Royals this year and allowed six runs in four innings both times. It’s unlikely the Royals saw enough from Spence on Monday to keep him in the rotation.
