Royals OF Prospect Seuly Matias went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple on Monday for Low-A Wilmington.
Matias also scored twice and drove in two runs. The 20-year-old showed tremendous power in the 2019 season, hitting 31 homers before a fluke thumb injury shut him down for the year. On top of that power, Matias is an above-average runner, although he hasn’t really shown that speed on the bases just yet. He’s also a strong defender with a cannon for an arm, which should allow him to move quickly through the system. There’s huge contact issues here, but Matias has tremendous fantasy potential. Expect him up around 2021.

Sources told The Athletic that the Mets are signing Austin Slater.
Nevermind, Nick Morabito; it’s going to be Slater replacing the soon-to-be DFA’d Tommy Pham as a spare right-handed outfielder in Queens. Slater, 33, was just cut by the Marlins after opening the season 4-for-23. He’ll start in left or right against lefties.
Reds, Athletics among MLB's most surprising teams
Jason Benetti, Eric Hosmer, Mark Gubicza and Adam Ottavino discuss MLB's most surprising teams so far, with Sal Stewart "leveling up" for the Reds and the Athletics having a "real shot" at the AL West crown.

The Mets will designate Tommy Pham for assignment, according to the New York Post’s Mike Puma.
Expecting Pham to help after just five A-ball games in which he went 2-for-12 was a pretty bizarre call from the Mets. He wound up 0-for-13 with seven strikeouts in 13 days with the club. As a fellow right-handed-hitting outfielder, Nick Morabito would seem to be the obvious candidate to replace him.

Multiple outlets report that the Yankees will promote Jasson Dominguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
It’s not yet known what the corresponding move will be for the Yankees, but it could be Giancarlo Stanton (calf) being placed on the injured list. It’s also worth noting that Luis Gil was already optioned to Triple-A after Sunday’s loss, so there’s an open spot on the roster. Dominguez has been solid in his 22 games in the minors in 2026 with an .875 OPS, three homers and eight stolen bases over 99 plate appearances to show for it. He forged a serviceable .718 OPS in the majors in 2026, and it’s worth noting that he’s not long removed from being considered one of the best hitting prospects in the sport. Dominguez still has a bright future, but there’s some risk that comes with the reward from a fantasy addition at this point.

Ildemaro Vargas finished a single shy of the cycle and drove in four as the Diamondbacks downed the Padres 12-7 in Mexico City on Sunday.
Vargas’s deal with the devil got a special boost today in the home ballpark of Diablos Rojos del Mexico. His homer off Michael King left the bat at just 90.9 mph, and his other extra-base hits were grounders. He’s now hitting .367/.383/.722 in 82 plate appearances, and he’s matched his career high with six homers. In the first month of his 10th big-league season, he’s raised his career OPS from .647 to .674.

Ryne Nelson surrendered six runs in five innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Padres.
Nelson averaged 97.1 mph with his fastball today, up 1.2 mph from his season average, but in the thin air of Mexico City, he gave up two homers with a total of three men on base. This leaves him with a 7.71 ERA after six starts, which could put his rotation spot in jeopardy. Still, ERA estimators think he’s been unlucky, and it’s hard to see Brandon Pfaadt as a better bet. He should face the Cubs next weekend.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #34
Michael King limited the Diamondbacks to two runs and three hits in six innings Sunday before watching the Padres bullpen blow a five-run lead.
The Padres used their three best relievers Saturday, so they were hoping their other guys might at least be able to cover the seventh and eighth today. As it turned out, David Morgan, Bradgley Rodriguez and Ron Marinaccio combined to give up 10 runs. Both runs against King came on homers, including one from Ildemaro Vargas that was just 90.9 mph off the bat. King will take a 2.41 ERA into his start next weekend against the White Sox.
  • SD 3rd Baseman #13
Manny Machado hit two homers to knock in five runs against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Machado got most of the first homer, hitting the ball 105-mph to left center. The second homer was a 96-mph fly to right that might have been a routine out somewhere other than Mexico City. Still, Machado was due for some luck, having entered the day at .198/.324/.291 with two homers in 105 plate appearances.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman #13
Tim Tawa hit a grand slam Sunday against the Padres for his first homer of 2026.
Tawa’s line-drive homer to left in Mexico City probably would have been a double in most ballparks, but even that would have done just fine for Arizona. Tawa is 6-for-41 while typically starting against lefties. He figures to see more time in Triple-A once the Diamondbacks start getting healthier.
  • COL Catcher #15
Hunter Goodman swatted a two-run homer to help the Rockies to a win in the second game of a doubleheader versus the Mets on Sunday.
Goodman pushed the Rockies’ lead to 3-0 with his two-run shot of a (yet again) ineffective Kodai Senga in the third inning. After a bit of a slow start, Goodman is raking again with seven homers and an .887 OPS over his 95 at-bats.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #36
Zach Agnos worked the final inning of the second game of a doubleheader against the Mets to pick up a save without allowing a run for the Rockies on Sunday.
Viktor Vodnik got the save in the first game of the twin billing and threw 15 pitches, so he wasn’t an option. The Rockies turned to Agnos instead, and while he did allow a double to MJ Melendez, he kept Melendez from advancing first while picking up his second save of 2026. Vodnik remains the closer here, and Agnos wouldn’t necessarily be next in line if something were to change that.
