    Mariners released INF Ty Kelly.
Kelly came out of a brief retirement to play independent ball and then caught on with the Mariners’ organization earlier this season, but he struggled at the Triple-A level. It’s unclear at this point whether he will choose to continue his career.

Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in a scoreless inning against the Mariners on Monday while picking up a save.
What year is it? Chapman continues to throw the baseball past hitters, and he needed just 13 pitches to mow down the Seattle order while picking up his 13th save. Two of those offerings were clocked above 100 mph, and he lowered his ERA to 1.50 in the process.
Fantasy impact of Ohtani returning to mound
James Schiano explains the fantasy implications of Shohei Ohtani being expected to make his Dodgers pitching debut Monday night, sharing how fantasy baseball team managers should handle Ohtani's return to the mound.

Lucas Giolito impressed Monday in a win over the Mariners while striking out 10 over six scoreless innings.
This was vintage Giolito, with help by a vintage Seattle Mariner offensive performance. The 30-year-old was able to procure 18 swings-and-misses on 91 pitches, and all three hits allowed were singles. In fact, all three knocks came back-to-back-to-back in the third inning, and Giolito struck out the next three hitters he faced; including Cal Raleigh to end the threat. That’s back-to-back impressive outings for Giolito to lower his ERA from 6.42 to 4.73. He’ll take on the Giants in San Francisco next week while squaring off against former teammate Rafael Devers.
  • BOS Center Fielder #16
Jarren Duran tripled and scored a run in a win Monday over the Mariners.
Duran took advantage of a misplay by Dom Canzone in the corner outfield and put his ever-so-impressive wheels to use. That’s already the eighth triple of the season for the 28-year-old, which puts him on pace for 17 in 2025. It’d be easy to say that number isn’t sustainable, but he’s coming off a 14-triple season in 2025, so, sure.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert struck out 10 over five innings of two-run baseball, but picked up a loss to the Red Sox on Monday.
Gilbert gave up a solo homer to Roman Anthony in the first inning — Anthony’s first in the majors — and another run scored on a fielder’s choice. Outside of that, it was a dominant return from the injured list for Gilbert; one where he initiated a whopping 21 swings-and-misses over just 84 pitches. Gilbert is one of the best pitchers in the sport, and he’ll look to build on this impressive outing when he squares off with the Cubs on Sunday in Chicago.

Roman Anthony hit his first major-league home run to help the Red Sox to a 2-0 win over the Mariners on Monday.
Anthony’s first big-league round-tripper came off Logan Gilbert in the first inning. The 21-year-old went hitless for the remainder of the contest, and he’s hitting just .095 since being promoted from Triple-A Worcester. Still, this was a reminder that Anthony possesses immense talent, and it seems likely that more balls are going to find their way over the fence in the coming weeks.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Jose Altuve hit a solo homer Monday in a loss to the Athletics while going 1-for-4.
Altuve was responsible for the only run of the game for the Astros with his 11th homer of the season. It came off Mitch Spence in the first inning, and it traveled a whopping 439 feet according to statcast. Altuve has been a solid power producer in 2025, and it’s been an accompanied by a .274 average and .333 on-base percentage.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #19
Mason Miller pitched a scoreless ninth and was credited with the win against the Astros on Monday.
Miller worked in the top of the ninth in a 1-1 game and Nick Kurtz was able to homer and give Miller his first win of 2025. The hard-throwing closer struck out two without allowing a hit, and lowered his ERA to a still-disappointing — if a bit misleading — 5.13 ERA.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #28
Mitch Spence didn’t factor into the decision Monday despite allowing just one run over five innings against the Astros.
Spence was a little fortunate to only give up the one run as he allowed seven hits with just two strikeouts, but sans a solo homer off the bat of Jose Altuve, he kept the Astros from crossing the plate. Spence has been excellent in June while allowing just two runs over his four appearances across 17 innings, and he’ll get a chance to limit the production again the Guardians over the weekend.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #67
Ryan Gusto struck out eight and allowed just one run but still didn’t factor into the decision against the Athletics on Monday.
Both Gusto and Mitch Spence held their opponents to a single run in this contest, so both come away without their deserved victories. The only run Gusto gave up was a solo homer to JJ Bleday, and outside of that he allowed just two other hits and one walk in one of his best starts in the majors. Gusto will look to build on this outing and continue to lower a 4.31 ERA against the Angels over the weekend.
  • ATH 1st Baseman #16
Nick Kurtz blasted a walk-off two-run homer on Monday to give the Athletics a 3-1 win over the Astros.
Well, you definitely can’t say the moment becomes too big for Kurtz. After hitting a tie-breaking homer in the ninth to beat the Royals on Sunday, the 22-year-old clobbered a two-run shot off Bryan Abreu in the bottom of the ninth Monday to give the A’s a rare victory. Kurtz has homered seven times in his first taste of major-league action with a respectable .235/.293/.454 triple-slash line.
