  • FA 1st Baseman #48

Anthony Rizzo is not in the Yankees starting lineup for Friday’s contest against the Red Sox.
It looks to be just a routine day off for the 33-year-old first baseman. Marwin Gonzalez will draw a start at first base in his place and will bat eighth for the Bombers against left-hander Rich Hill and the Red Sox.

  • FA Relief Pitcher #71

The Mets are showing interest in re-signing Tyler Rogers, according to The New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
Edwin Díaz is gone, but Rogers in the eighth and Devin Williams in the ninth would still give the Mets an exceptional late-game duo. Rogers, a free agent for the first time, is almost certain to land the first multiyear deal of his career at age 35.
Schwarber remains elite power source with new deal
Eric Samulski unpacks ripple effects from Kyle Schwarber reportedly returning to the Phillies on a five-year, $150M contract, sharing why the deal should "age well" and bode well for fantasy purposes.
  • NYM Left Fielder #1
With Pete Alonso exiting, the Mets have internally discussed going with Jeff McNeil as a first baseman against righties and signing a platoonmate, says the Boston Globe’s Tim Healey.
Healey, who covered the Mets before jumping to the Red Sox in the middle of the season, said one option being discussed in signing Paul Goldschmidt. McNeil is also an option in left field for the Mets after being bumped off second base by the Marcus Semien acquisition. He’s also been mentioned as a trade candidate.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #21
Orioles claimed LHP Josh Walker off waivers from the Braves.
The Orioles are reclaiming Walker four weeks after losing him to the Braves on waivers. Odds are that he’ll go right back on waivers later this month, but maybe he’ll clear next time around. The Orioles like him enough to want him around to contend for a bullpen spot, just not enough to permanently use an offseason roster spot on him.
  • BAL Catcher #3
Orioles designated C Drew Romo for assignment.
Romo gets booted from the 40-man five days after being claimed from the Rockies. Now we’ll find out if anyone else was interested in the 24-year-old when he waived last week.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher
White Sox selected RHP Alexander Alberto from the Rays with the 13th selection of the Rule 5 draft.
Alberto was the final pick of the Rule 5 draft, and the White Sox were the only team who picked twice. A 6-foot-8 right-hander, Alberto was able to strike out 64 batters in 48 2/3 innings, but it’s worth noting he didn’t pitch above High-A. He’ll have a chance to show if that stuff can play at the highest level this spring.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #91
Phillies selected RHP Zack McCambley from the Marlins with the 12th selection in the Rule 5 draft.
McCambley, 26, had a 2.90 ERA and an 83/22 K/BB in 62 innings out of the pen between Double- and Triple-A last season. He throws in the mid-90s, but he uses his cutter more than his fastball and also attacks hitters with a slider. It’s package that could make him adequate in middle relief.
  • Yankees selected RHP Cade Winquest from the Cardinals with the ninth pick of the Rule 5 draft.
Winquest is one of the few starters who was drafted in this year’s Rule 5, but his path to joining the Yankees will likely come in relief. An eighth-round pick back in 2022, Winquest made 23 starts — 25 appearances in total — while reaching Double-A while in the St. Louis organization with a 110/39 K/BB and 3.99 ERA over 106 innings.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher
Blue Jays selected RHP Spencer Miles with the 10th pick in the Rule 5 draft.
Miles, who is coming off Tommy John, has pitched a total of 14 2/3 minor league innings since the Giants selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, but he apparently turned some heads in the AFL. He had a 4.15 ERA and a 12/1 K/BB over 8 2/3 innings in the offense-heavy league. Although he’s never pitched above Low-A ball, the Jays will see if he might be of some use to a contending team.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher
Guardians selected RHP Peyton Pallette from the White Sox with the ninth pick of the Rule 5 Draft.
Pallette was a second-round pick out of Arkansas in 2022, and the 24-year-old showed some swing-and-miss stuff with 86 strikeouts over 64 1/3 innings with Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. He’ll have a shot to win a bullpen job with Cleveland if he pitches well in the Cactus League, but it’s an uphill battle.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #35
Astros selected RHP Roddery Muñoz from the Reds with the eighth pick in the Rule 5 draft.
Muñoz was the lone major league veteran chosen today. The Reds claimed him from the waivers from the Cardinals last month, non-tendered him and then re-signed him to a minor league contract. Since he wasn’t on the 40-man, that made him eligible to be swooped up here, and the Astros decided it was worth it. Muñoz has a 6.73 ERA in 17 starts and 10 relief appearances as a major leaguer. Used exclusively as a reliever for the first time last season, he struck out 76 in 57 2/3 innings for the Cardinals’ Triple-A club. He’ll probably battle for a spot in Houston’s pen.
