Ortiz was a promising prospect with the Phillies a few years ago, but has yet to reach the majors. He’s been jettisoned from Philadelphia’s 40-man roster to enable them to bring up some extra relief depth for an overtaxed bullpen.

It’s not believed to be anything serious and the 33-year-old outfielder is considered day-to-day. Alejandro Osuna will start in his place in right field and will bat fifth for the Rangers against Blue Jays’ right-hander Spencer Miles.

He’ll take the place of the injured Cal Quantrill (lat) on the Rangers’ active roster. He’ll be available out of the bullpen initially, but could be given an opportunity to make a spot start the next time Quantrill’s spot in the rotation comes around.

The issue cropped up for Quantrill during Saturday’s start against the Blue Jays. It’s not expected to be a long-term concern, but Quantrill wasn’t going to be able to make his next start so the Rangers will swap him out for an extra bullpen arm. Winston Santos was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.

It looks to be nothing more than a regular day of rest for the versatile 24-year-old. Alan Roden will start in his place in right field and will bat fifth for the Twins against Angels’ right-hander Ryan Johnson on Sunday afternoon.

Tucker made an early exit from Saturday’s game after fouling a ball off of his right leg. The injury isn’t believed to be serious, but Tucker was still sore on Sunday so the Dodgers opted to give him an extra day off to rest. Enrique Hernandez will start in his place and will bat eighth against Giants’ left-hander Matt Wilkinson.

The 28-year-old right-hander has been battling through a hamstring injury over the past couple of weeks and is finally ready to show the Tigers what he can do at the MLB level. He’s only expected to work a few innings in the game and will be piggybacked by Keider Montero, so fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him to have a shot at earning a victory.

The results of that exam are not yet known, but Cease will not make his scheduled start against the Orioles in Baltimore on Wednesday. Blue Jays’ skipper John Schneider did not rule out the chance that he pitches over the season’s final weekend against the Reds. Cease has been complaining of fatigue in his shoulder, the result of carrying a heavy load for the Jays’ pitching staff this season.

The 37-year-old slugger gets a breather after starting every other game this week for the Jays. He’ll likely be used off the bench in a key late game situation if one arises on Sunday afternoon. Sean Keys will serve as the team’s designated hitter in his absence and will bat fifth against Rangers’ right-hander Jacob deGrom.

With Huáscar Brazoban rejoining the White Sox’ bullpen on Sunday, someone needed to get the boot to clear a spot and it looks like Murphy drew the short straw this time around. The 28-year-old left-hander has registered a 4.81 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 35/16 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings in 33 appearances for the White Sox this season.

Brazoban had been sidelined since late August due to a left lat strain. Prior to landing on the injured list, the 36-year-old righty had posted a 3.16 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 54/29 K/BB ratio over 62 2/3 innings between the Mets and White Sox, though he struggled to a 6.30 ERA in his 10 appearances since joining the White Sox. Chris Murphy was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move on Sunday.
