Brady Singer gave up six runs in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the White Sox.
Fortunately, Singer was able to give the Royals some length after a five-run first, as the team did not need an early exit in the first game of a doubleheader. Still, Singer’s velocity remains down, and he’s just not missing bats right now. The Royals might have to shut him down early.

Astros manager Joe Espada said Bennett Sousa (oblique) hurt himself on a fielding play and will start the season on the injured list.
Sousa figured to be a left-handed option for the Astros if he made the roster after allowing a run in three innings of Grapefruit League action. He had a 2.84 ERA for the Astros in 50 2/3 innings last year and should be quickly back on the roster after his rehab as long as this injury isn’t more serious than it sounds.
Fantasy pitchers to look out for after WBC Final
Eric Samulski reacts to Venezuela's 3-2 win over the U.S. in the World Baseball Classic and highlights players to look out for in fantasy, including pitchers Eduardo Rodriguez, Nolan McLean and Daniel Palencia.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #30
Pirates manager Don Kelly said Paul Skenes will start Pittsburgh’s Opening Day game against the Mets.
Stunner. He’ll oppose Freddy Peralta in the opener. Skenes’ 2026 fantasy forecast could take a major step forward if the Pirates are able to generate more offense behind him this year. He’s become a routine first-round pick even without generating much in the way of wins, but if the runs lead to wins, his ceiling could be higher in 2026.
  • NYM 3rd Baseman #0
Mets optioned IF Ronny Mauricio and RHP Joey Gerber to Triple-A Syracuse; reassigned RHP Mike Baumann and LHP Brandon Waddell to minor league camp.
Mauricio had hit .313/.389/.531 in Spring Training, but it wasn’t quite enough to hold on to him in a utility role. He’ll start at Syracuse and look to get back to the bigs in the near-term future. Mauricio hit .323/.384/.508 in 73 minor league plate appearances last year, including .515/.564/.818 in Syracuse for 39 plate appearances.
  • BOS Shortstop #39
Red Sox optioned IF Tsung-Che Cheng and IF/OF Nick Sogard to Triple-A Worcester; reassigned IF/OF Max Ferguson, IF/OF Tyler McDonough, IF Mikey Romero, OF Allan Castro and C/1B Nathan Hickey to minor league camp.
Cheng, who was claimed off waivers from the Nationals in February, hit .133/.409/.133 in 22 spring training plate appearances. Good eye. The 24-year-old will try to carve out a path to the majors in a crowded Red Sox infield situation at Worcester.
  • PIT 1st Baseman #13
Pirates optioned C/1B Endy Rodriguez to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Rodriguez hit .173/.246/.250 in 57 plate appearances last year. He managed a .308/.400/.577 Spring Training line in 28 at-bats, but has missed so much time over the past couple of years that the Pirates likely wanted to see him get an extended run of at-bats. It’s possible he factors into the Pirates plans in the summer if he hits well at Indianapolis.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #62
White Sox returned Rule 5 pick RHP Alexander Alberto to the Rays.
Alberto had a 10.80 ERA and 2.40 WHIP in 6.2 innings during Spring Training. He’ll likely return to either Single-A Bowling Green or Double-A Montgomery to open the 2025 season with the Rays. Alberto has not pitched above High-A to this point in his minor league career.
  • PHI Shortstop #25
The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports Dylan Moore will opt out of his minor league deal with the Phillies.
There’ll be a slew of these over the next few days — the Phillies can retain Moore by adding him to the 40-man roster in the next 48 hours, or he will become a free agent. It sure seems likely based on how the offseason has gone that the Phillies will add Moore to the 40-man and have him start the year as one of their bench bats, but this move forces their hand.
  • TB Shortstop #6
Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin reports Rays SS Taylor Walls (oblique) will open the season on the injured list.
It’s possible that this is a re-aggravation of Walls’ initial oblique injury early in Spring Training. Carson Williams is taking Walls’ spot in the lineup today and is a plausible fill-in to start the season if the Rays don’t “consider outside options” per Topkin. Williams hit .172/.219/.354 in his 106 at-bat cup of coffee in the 2025 season and, should he be the Opening Day starter, is probably only a consideration in AL-only leagues despite his top prospect status.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Trey Yesavage (shoulder) has an impingement and will start the season on the injured list.
Yesavage’s build up has been slow all offseason, and this helps explain why. He arrived to camp with the injury, per Schneider. He’s not slated to stop throwing, so it’s possible this is just a minor delay for Yesavage’s 2026 season. He’ll throw off a mound again next week. Eric Lauer will likely take Yesavage’s rotation spot in the early season.
  • TEX Center Fielder #32
Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant reports that the Rangers “have indicated” OF Evan Carter will “face a decent number” of left-handed pitchers.
Carter has some post-hype sleeper to his profile after a few lost seasons to injuries and is widely available in shallow leagues. The idea that he might not be stuck in a pure platoon situation adds to his appeal. Carter has hit .222 with two homers and a steal in 27 Spring Training at-bats to date, managing a .909 OPS.
