  • TB Relief Pitcher #49
Kevin Kelly worked a clean ninth inning for Tampa Bay on Wednesday against the Red Sox allowing zero base runners while striking out two.
Pete Fairbanks pitched Tuesday and hasn’t been used on back-to-back days since coming off the IL while Jason Adam had worked four out of five days opening the door for Kelly to close this one out. The side-armer is unlikely to earn many more save opportunities with Fairbanks and Adam healthy.
  • SF Right Fielder #8
Michael Conforto (hamstring) began a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.
The Giants’ outfield could use some reinforcements, and Conforto should be ready to provide that after a couple of minor league games to get his timing back. If all goes well, he should return to the active roster early next week. Before landing on the injured list, the 31-year-old slugger was hitting .280/.331/.490 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 38 games.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #59
Dodgers activated RHP Evan Phillips from the 15-day injured list.
The 29-year-old closer finally returns to the Dodgers’ bullpen after landing on the injured list with a hamstring strain. While Daniel Hudson and Blake Treinen did a nice job in his absence, expect Phillips to jump right into the team’s ninth-inning role. On the season, he holds a minuscule 0.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 17/4 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings of work while recording eight saves.
  • MIL Shortstop #6
Brewers optioned INF/OF Owen Miller to Triple-A Nashville.
With Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) returning from the injured list on Friday, there was no longer room on the bench for Miller. He’ll return to an everyday role at Triple-A Nashville until his services are needed again at the big league level.
  • MIL First Baseman #12
Brewers activated 1B Rhys Hoskins from the 10-day injured list.
The 31-year-old slugger will make his triumphant return to the Brewers’ starting lineup on Friday night against the White Sox. Prior to landing on the injured list with a right hamstring strain, Hoskins was hitting .233/.340/.474 with nine homers and 27 RBI through his first 38 games.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #59
Drew Pomeranz has elected free agency.
It’s been an interesting week for the 35-year-old southpaw. He signed a one-year MLB contract with the Giants on Friday, only to then be designated for assignment on Tuesday. He refused his outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento and is now free to peddle his wares on the open market once again. Pomeranz hasn’t appeared in a big league game since the 2021 season.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants sent C Jakson Reetz outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
As anticipated, the 28-year-old backstop passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to serve as extra catching depth for the Giants at the Triple-A level. Reetz went just 1-for-12 (.083) with a solo homer and four strikeouts during his time with the big league club.
  • SF Center Fielder #34
Giants sent OF Ryan McKenna outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
The 27-year-old outfielder passed through waivers unclaimed and accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento. He’ll continue to function as excess outfield depth for the Giants until he’s called upon once more.
  • SF Third Baseman #10
Giants recalled INF Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento.
The 25-year-old infielder will get another opportunity with the big league club with Marco Luciano (hamstring) heading to the injured list on Friday. Schmitt has struggled in his limited action this season, hitting just .136 (3-for-22) with one RBI and a 5/0 K/BB ratio. Look for Brett Wisely to see the bulk of the action at shortstop with Luciano shelved.
  • SF Shortstop #37
Giants placed INF Marco Luciano on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 30, with a right hamstring strain.
The 22-year-old infielder suffered the injury during Wednesday’s game. It’s unclear how long he’ll be shelved for. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take his place on the active roster. Expect Schmitt and Brett Wisely to both see action at shortstop while Luciano is sidelined.
  • CWS Center Fielder #88
Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun Times believes that Luis Robert Jr. (hip) will return to the White Sox’ lineup on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old superstar is currently on a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte, where he received a planned day off on Thursday. He’ll remain there through the weekend, and if all goes well, he’ll join the White Sox in Chicago for their battle against the Cubs starting on Tuesday.
